I was in a really bad mood that day.... after losing my fight for the traffic ticket at court.  Dr. Park tried to make me feel better by taking me to Korean BBQ for lunch.

I picked Castle Korean BBQ Restaurant as our lunch destination.  I used to come here with friends back in the Ktown clubbing days.  I remember the BBQ was great and dinner time was always packed.  I haven't been here for years.  Seemed like they joined the trend and also became one of those all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurants now.

The restaurant was pretty empty.  What happened?  People just don't come here anymore?  Or people don't really eat BBQ for lunch?

All You Can Eat is $15.99 per person.  But we weren't really in the mood for that much food.

Good they still have a regular menu with lunch special.  The lunch BBQ is $20.99 for two people.

Banchan

Five banchan were brought to the table after ordering.  Kimchi, potato salad, fish cake, bean sprout and broccoli.  We I finished it all.  Yes, I eat a lot when I'm in a bad mood.

Salad

The salad was meant to go with the BBQ meat so it had no dressing.  I didn't like the salad here.  They use shredded cabbage.  I like the soft greens better.  And they need to add some green onion to the salad.

Rice Paper & Sauces

Rice paper to wrap the meat.  And cilantro sauce and spicy chili sauce for dipping.

Black Angus Deckle

The lunch special came with two types of meat.  The first one was Black Angus Deckle.  The waitress helped us placed the onion and some meat on to the hot pan.  The thin sliced beef had no flavor.  Sauteed with the onion and dipping in the hot sauce, it tasted better.

Black Angus Deckle & Short Ribs

We picked short ribs as our second choice of meat.  They gave us just a vew pieces of short ribs, and it wasn't the Kalbi that we expected.  It was just unseasoned short ribs with bones and cut into very little pieces.  We were quite disappointed about the short ribs.

Cold Noodle

For the lunch special set, we could pick between fried rice, soy bean soup or cold noodle.  The weather was hot so we picked cold noodle.  Their BBQ was a disappointment, but the cold noodle was pretty good.  Chewy noodle with flavorful broth.

I used to like Castle BBQ.  But it's not my kind of Castle anymore.  Food quality has gone down.... way down.  Goodbye Castle BBQ.  I don't think I'll be back again.

  2. Thank you for going back to check it out. I drive pass Castle BBQ (next to a 7-11, right?) 5 days of week to and from work. I've never stopped by. Now I know that I don't ever need to stop by. ;-)

    Hope you feel better....

The restaurant used to be pretty good.
Don't know what happened to them.

  3. Sorry, Eileen. Sounds like you're really down about the ticket, not even KBBQ can help.

If it was good Korean BBQ, it should cheer me up.
But even the BBQ wasn't good. Just not my day....
