Eating out can be expensive, but we enjoy food too much to cut it completely out from our budget. So the best solution for us is to use coupons when we dine out. Dr. P was feeling like some Italian that night. We looked through my restaurant coupons collection, and found a Buy One Get One Free Entree coupon from Romano's Macaroni Grill. Perfect! That's where we'd go then. (P.S. If you want to get coupon offers from Macaroni Grill, remember to sign up to be on their mailing list.)

House Chanti ($5.49)

Dr. P always orders a glass of their House Chanti. This time, they served the Chanti in a regular water glass instead of wine glass. We asked the waitress about it. She just said the restaurant made that decision, and she doesn't know why. Hmmm.... It just feels funny drinking wine out of a water glass.

Mediterranean Olives ($2.00)
Handpicked olives from regional farms in Italy. Marinated with extra virgin olive oil, lemon zest and roasted red peppers

Mediterranean Olives is another item we always order. It goes well with the warm rosemary bread and the wine to start an Italian meal.

Caesar Salad ($3.00)

We shared an add-on Caesar Salad.

Chicken Scaloppine ($14.79)
Sauteed chicken with artichokes, mushrooms, aged prosciutto and lemon butter with capellini pasta

Dr. P's entree was Chicken Scaloppine. We love the flavor of artichokes, mushrooms, proscuitto and lemon butter. But this dish was ridiculously oily that day. There were so much oil and butter on the dish that we couldn't even finish the pasta. I tilted the plate, and there were probably 2 tablespoons of oil collected on one side of the plate.

Create Your Own Pasta ($10.99) with Sauteed Shrimp ($3.49) (Free)
Our chefs will prepare your choice of an imported pasta, your favorite sauce and a selection of fresh toppings.

I ordered Create Your Own Pasta. The options I picked were spaghetti + roasted garlic cream + sauteed shrimp ($3.49) + mushroom + spinach + broccoli. This was a really delicious pasta dish. I loved the fresh vegetables. But I thought $3.49 for 4 little shrimp was a bit pricey.

That was our coupon dining Italian meal. We enjoyed our date night dining out, and also kept the cost in our budget. After diner, we went to see Transformer 3 in IMAX 3D. What a great experience! IMAX 3D movie is awesome! But Transformer 3 was... just alright.

  1. Thats strange about the wine glass... Maybe they think that if people use regular glasses they will drink more than they would from a traditional wine glass? (that way the restaurant can sell more drinks)

We even asked the waitress about that.
She said actually they measured it. It's about the same amount of wine in a wine glass.

  3. I used to watch a lot of food network shows. When Giada De Laurentiis serves food on the show, she usually pours wine in regular glasses. Might be an Italian thing?

Could be! I'll have to visit Italy to find out.
(haha.... now I have an excuse to go to Italy!!)
