My sister is not a vegetarian, but she likes to eat healthy.  In general, vegetarian food seems healthier.  So on the day she came to visit me in OC, I planned to take her to try two vegetarian restaurants.  For lunch, we went to Veggie Grill.  I've been to Veggie Grill near UC Irvine a few times, and thought the food was really good.  This time we tried the Irvine Spectrum location so we could walk around the Spectrum after lunch.

VG-Cheeseburger ($9.95) / Mac-n-Cheese ($2.25)
The V-burger topped with VG-Cheese. El Dorado style upon request with jalapenos, caramelized onions, ketchup.

My sister ordered VG-Cheeseburger with a side of Mac-n-Cheese.  I tried a bite of the Cheeseburger, and it was good.  But the Mac-n-Cheese was HORRIBLE.  It was probably the worst Mac-n-Cheese ever.  It tasted like artificial butter.  I know it wasn't real cheese.  But they could at least try to make it taste like cheese instead of tasting like fake butter.  We both had one bite, and left the rest uneaten.

Bali Bliss ($6.75) with Portobello Mushroom ($1.50) / Sweetheart Fries ($2.25)
Indonesian styled tempeh, sauteed and grilled, lettuce, tomato, red onion, chipotle ranch. Blacken upon request.

I ordered Bali Bliss with added portobello mushroom.  Although I didn't request for blaken tempeh, it came out pretty burnt on the outside.  I didn't like the burnt taste.  But after scraping off the burnt outer layer, the tempeh tasted pretty good.  Portebello mushroom always has a lot of juice.  When eating portobello mushroom sandwich/burger, mushroom juice would always drip down.  Lots of liquid came out of the burger when I was eating it.  But it wasn't just mushroom juice.  It was oil, and lots of it.  I couldn't believe how much oil they used to cook the mushroom.  The side of sweet potato fries was the best part of the meal.

Lunch at The Veggie Grill was disappointing.  Is it just this location?  Or my taste actually changed?  I did liked them a lot before.  Now the only thing I like from The Veggie Grill is their sweet potato fries.  Their healthy vegetarian food probably is not that healthy after all.
