[Westminster] [Vietnamese] Quan Vy Da

Quan Vy Da
9950 Bolsa Ave #B
Westminster, CA 92683
(714) 531-2905

We found the best massage place in Westminster, Olala Reflexology.  The one hour long whole body massage is only $15, and it was soooooooo relaxing.  Normally we tip $5 for those $15 foot massage places in San Gabriel Valley.  But Olala actually focuses on the body more than the foot, which we really like, so we tip them $10 here.  I love how they massage my scalp and face, too.  Just thinking about it make me want to say "olala~~~~", haha.  Anyway, after the massage, we were hungry.  We saw a lot of people going to this restaurant next door, Quan Vy Da, to get take-out.  We decided to be adventurous and walked in without even knowing what kind of food they serve.

The place is big, bright and clean.  The waiter didn't speak much English, but he was still pretty helpful by pointing on the menu to recommend dishes.

The place has a "fancy" looking landscape sculpture in front of painted wall.

Soup & Sauce

We ordered an appetizer, noodle soup, and rice dish.  The rice dish came with a bowl of soup.  The soup was pretty good, with lemongrass and basil flavor.

Vy Da Combo (Beo, Loc, Nam, Uot, It) ($6.50)
Vy Da's Combination Plate

I saw a lot of people ordering Banh Beo Chen Vy Da (Vy Da's Steamed Rice Cake with Dry Ground Shrimp).  The rice cakes came in small sauce dishes, and each order had like 10 or 15 plates.  We were going to try those.  Then we saw the Vy Da Combo, which comes with the rice cakes and some other items that we had no idea what they were.  Why not give it a try?  The other items in the combo were Banh Bot Loc La Chuoi (Tapioca Cake with Shrimp and Pork wrapped in banana leaf), Banh Nam Cha Tom (Thin Rice Cake with Ground Shrimp wrapped in banana leaf), Banh Uot Tom Choy (Steamed Rice Roll with Ground Shrimp), and Banh It Ram (Steam & Fried Dumpling with Shrimp and Pork).  Everything tasted sort of the same, just with slightly different texture.  It wasn't bad, but we didn't really like anything particularly.  I guess we still have to get used to Vietnamese cuisine.

Bun Bo Hue Vy Da Dac Biet (Thit, Gio, Gan, Huyet, Cha) ($5.75)
Vy Da's Hot and Spicy Beef Noodle Soup

There is no Pho at this restaurant.  Their specialty is Bun Bo Hue, Vietnamese beef noodle soup.  I had Bun Bo Hue before, and this was the best Bun Bo Hue I've ever had.  The soup base was full of fresh herb aroma, slightly spicy, slightly sour, soooooo good!  The sliced beef was tender.  There were also tendon, pork blood, and pork hock in the soup.  Everything was just superb.

Com Ga Vy Da Dac Biet ($5.95)
Vy Da's Special Rice with shredded Chicken

We were going to order a loc lac beef cube rice dish, but the waiter pointed to Com Ga Vy Da Dac Biet (shredded chicken rice) on the menu and said, "this very good".  We listened to his advice, and also noticed almost every table had an order of the shredded chicken rice on their table.  The dish looked simple, but the shredded chicken was full of flavor.  Tender dark chicken meat was tossed with shredded onion, cilantro, garlic, and spices.  The rice was cooked with chicken stock, I think.  It's the kind of chicken flavor rice you get with Hainan Chicken rice.  We poured some of their sweet and spicy fish sauce over the chicken and rice.  It was delicious.

The food at Quan Vy Da is cheap and delicious.  Can't wait to go to Olala for massage then Quan Vy Da to eat again soon!
