[Costa Rica Honeymoon] [Day 1] TACA Airline LAX ---> San Jose, Costa Rica

Our flight from Los Angeles to San Jose, Costa Rica was on TACA Airline. I have never heard of TACA before. This airline is from El Salvador. Their routes are mainly to and from Central America. We didn't expect much from this "unknown-to-us" airline. We ended up really liking this company. We made numerous phone calls to the customer service at TACA about our missing flight to try to figure out what to do. They were really helpful, and tried really hard to help us out. The economic seats on the plane was quite roomy comparing to other flights we've been on. The flight was only about 6 hours, but they served a meal. There were also free snacks and drinks, including beer, wines, hard liquors... all FREE! Service was really nice. All the flight attendants are very friendly, not to mention very pretty, too! There's just something about women from Central America. What do they eat to get that perfect body?

Since our flight departed at 1am, Dr. P and I both went to sleep right after the plane took off.  We we5re awaken by the smell of food around 5am-ish.

So I took a picture of the lid of the box, but not what were inside the box.  haha....  I was still half-asleep.  So everything was written in Spanish.  What does it say?  Inside the box were bread and yogurt.  I didn't eat the bread.  Had a few bites of the yogurt and thought it tasted strange.  Guess I'm not used to Central American yogurt.

The hot plate had scrambled eggs with cream cheese and salsa, tater tots, and Smokies sausage.  It looked just alright, but tasted delicious.  I never really like airplane food.  Somehow TACA managed to make their food really yummy.  I thought maybe it was just me because I was hungry, but Dr. P said the same thing.  He also liked the food a lot.

After eating the yummy breakfast, I was awake.  I started taking pictures from my window.  Isn't blue sky + white cloud pretty?

We made a short stop at Guatemala for some people to get off the plane and some people to get on.  We just stayed on the plane for about 40 minutes.  The "land" in the picture is Guatemala.  The country looks very green with not too many buildings from the sky.

There we went on the sky again.  It only took 1 hour from Guatemala to Costa Rica.

Costa Rica!!!!

Beautiful coastline.  7 days in Costa Rica, WooHoo~~~~~

  1. Yay, a plane flight! I haven't been on a plane in two years, I want to go on one soon.
Yep, airlines from other countries are nicer in the fact they provide more stuff for free, kind of like Asian airlines that are not low fare ones. :)
Hmm...the lid of the box, from the little Spanish I know says:
What do you know? (Then, it talks about the benefits of the peach)
Actually the food is usually catered at LAX...but if the yogurt didn't look like any American brand then I would say it's catered from their http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com base. But the butter looks like it's from US. :)

I can't remember the brand of the yogurt.
But it just tasted funny. I didn't like it at all.
The food on our return flight was quite tasty too.
    I like TACA!

  2. Haha I know that's airline food but it looks pretty good. I mean it definitely beats the usual boring sandwiches :)

I really like this airline's food.
The only thing I didn't like was the bread. It was a bit dry.

  5. I'm from San Jose, CR! :) ...but I'm Asian. You'll see TONS of Asian Costaricans down there!! Enjoy your trip. Remember to visit Tabacon. That's a MUST!! :)

Really? I didn't see any on my trip! >___<
But we only stayed in San Jose for a few hours.
I would LOVE to go back to CR someday. It's such a beautiful country.
We love the food, and the people are all sooooo nice, too.
How long have you been there?

  6. If you are in San Jose you MUST go to the restaurant of the Grano de Oro Hotel in San Jose, FOOD THERE IS AWSOME! Also TinJo restaurant is a great asian place and at last but not least Andiamo Lá restaurant for GREAT italian food. this last one is kind of far (30 mins drive from downtown san jose)

Now I really wish I had posted about our trip to Costa Rica beforehand.
Hopefully we'll return again to try the yummy restaurants!
Thank you so much for the suggestion, Maria!

  7. Using college-level Spanish, the box says:

    Did you know?
The peach guarantees good eyesight, good state of the skin, the teeth, and the gums. Furthermore, it protects our stomach and helps us stay youthful over time by eliminating the destructive action of free radicals.

Then how come there was no peach in the box?
Shouldn't they at least put a peach in the box? haha......
Thank you for the translation, Lena!

  10. Most of the Asians are in San Jose, though there's a huge population of them in the Caribbean coast, in the province of Limon, predominantly Chinese. You should really go back and it is indeed a beautiful country (not SJO though :P ) with super friendly people. We Ticos love tourists :) ... What kind of food did you try? "Casado" o "Gallo Pinto"? Did you guys stay in Guanacaste? Glad you enjoyed it!!

We were at Monteverde, Guanacaste and Manuel Antonio.
Costa Rican food is AWESOME! Everything just tasted so much better over there.
I mean, I had bean and rice in US all the time. But the bean and rice in CR is just soooooo good.
The beef was amazing. I love all the all natural grass fed lean beef!
More posts about our Costa Rica trip will be here very soon.
If I visit Costa Rica again, I really would like to stay longer to explore the beautiful country more. :-)
