[Los Angeles] [American] LA Roadhouse Diner 66

I am still waiting to get all the wedding pictures from our photographers.  So I guess I'll have to write about our honeymoon first.

Our honeymoon didn't start that smoothly.  Our flight to Costa Rica is at Saturday, August 21 at 1am.  My brain must be fried because of the wedding.  For some reason, I thought that meant "Saturday night".  On Friday night around 11pm, Dr. P and I were talking about how excited we were about leaving for our honeymoon the next day, all of sudden it hit me.  All of a sudden I realized Saturday 1am meant 2 hours later... Friday night, or early Saturday morning, or whatever you wanna call it.  The point was, there was NO WAY we can pack and make the flight on time from Orange County to LAX in 2 hours.  Yup, so we missed our flight.  It was the first time in my life I've ever miss a flight, and that happened to be our honeymoon flight.  I almost cried, but crying wouldn't help.  After making a few phone calls to the airline and the travel agency in Costa Rica, we booked a flight the next day, the original "Saturday night" flight that I thought we were on.  We would miss the first day of the tour, and had to pay extra $400, but that was ok.  I learned my lesson about "date" and "time".  haha....

We took Super Shuttle to the airport, and got there quite early.  Since we got some time to kill, we went into the only restaurant that was opened in Terminal 2, LA Roadhouse Diner 66.  The food court was opened, too.  But we didn't feel like eating overpriced fast food.  We walked in the restaurant.  A waitress saw us and didn't even said anything.  We went up to her and said, "2, please."  She just said, "ok."  We were like, "uh.... can we sit outside?"  She just said, "you can sit wherever you want." and walked away.  Hmmmm.... talking about service here.

Lime Infused Grilled Chicken & Brie ($10.49)
Sliced chicken in a lime and herb infused marinade, then grilled with caramelized red onions, roasted red peppers and a chiffonade of fresh basil.  Covered in melted brie with garlic aioli mayonnaise and served on a toasted ciabatta roll.

Everything was expensive, so we just ordered a sandwich to share.  Lime Infused Grilled Chicken & Brie sounded really good from the description on the menu.  When I saw the plate, my first thought was "what? that little sandwich costs $11?  That was like a 4 bites sandwich!"

The sandwich was pretty tasty.  I could definitely taste the lime.  Brie cheese was yummy.  But still, two bites and my half of a sandwich was gone.

The whole time we were there, our waitress never pay attention to us.  Actually she didn't really pay attention to anyone.  She was on her cell phone chatting for the longest time.  She never smiled at people.  She never offered help.  She wouldn't come to anyone's table unless people called her.  I was so mad about the service and almost didn't want to leave her any tip.  But then I felt bad and still left her $1.

Yes, I know airport food is always expensive.  But if the food and service are both good, I don't mind paying a little extra.  This place has decent food, but portion was way too small.  And the bad service just made me never want to go back again.  If you're flying out of LAX in Terminal 2, DO NOT go to this restaurant!

  2. That reminds me of the time my then-boyfriend (now husband) and I missed the flight http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com from Connecticut. It must be nerve-wrecking especially since it was the beginning of the honeymoon journey for you two. Just be patient with the photographs, and I hope you'll enjoy them. Would love to see more on your honeymoon adventure.

I still don't know why I messed up the date.
I think I'm getting old.... haha. I can't wait to see the wedding photos!
Hope I'll get the CDs soon!

  3. this post reminds me of two things: i once made the same mistake about 12:30 am flight. Luckily my then roommate reminds me of it. So I didn't miss it. As a very fresh student back then, I would be devastated if I missed that flight...

the second thing is a really bad experience. About two weeks ago my friends and i went to a korean bbq. The service there is horrible. The korean waitter even yelled at my friend who said nothing. She was asking the check and since it's really loud she made a check sign in the air...somehow this simple move piss the waiter off cause he yelled"you don't have to yell at me! F U!" I was completely shocked and so as my friend. At the end I insist that we only pay 10% tip instead of the 18% they asked. I mean, they can't ask for that much of a tip after doing this. My first thought back then was "how would eileen handle this? would she tip them 18%?" I've been reading your blog for 2 years...it inprinted my...hehe

So please do share your opinion on this!

OMG are you serious about that Korean restaurant?
I wouldn't leave them ANY tip if that happens to me.
I would complain to Better Business Bureau as well (http://www.bbb.org).
Treating customers that way is unacceptable.
Do you have a Yelp account? If you do, you can write about your experience there.
Hopefully people will not go to that restaurant after knowing how they mistreat their customers.
What is the name and location of this restaurant?
I want to know so I will never go there. I'm so sorry that happened to you and your friends.

  4. Thank you Eileen for your reply. I do have a yelp account but I haven't wrote anything about it yet. The reason is that the waiter who behaved so rude knew one of my friends who was there that day but left early. He would have been stopping the whole thing if he stayed and saw this. The waiter shouted at us when we were out of the door:"I know your friend! He comes here a lot of times. I will talk to him the next time he come. I'll let him know what you guys did today!" That waiter is just crazy. I didn't wanna start any issue for my friend. But he informed me that he won't no longer go to that place after he heard what happened.

It's a Korean BBQ restaurant on Olympics blvd near downtown. I forgot the name. The have their own big parking lot on the left. The name starts with an 'm'...

Anyway, Thank you again for replying when you're so busy with honeymoon, new life, new job and new pets. I really appreciate it.

Manna? I've been there a few time, but never had bad service like that before.
Hmmmm.... That waiter sounded crazy! I'm sorry you guys experienced that.
