We moved out of our apartment in Irvine to a townhouse in Aliso Viejo last month. I really like Aliso Viejo. This is a beautiful city with lots of trees. It's very mellow comparing to Irvine. It's always fun to explore a new city and trying new restaurants. On our moving day, we were exhausted and just wanted to go somewhere close for dinner. Not really knowing what restaurants are around, we just drove the the nearest shopping plaza. It was around 9pm, and Thai Bite was still almost full. We followed the crowd and found authentic and tasty Thai food.
Larb ($7.95)
A savory Thai salad of minced chicken tossed with roasted chili, basil, onion and lemon juice
Dr. P ordered his favorite Thai salad, Chicken Larb, to start the meal. Honestly, we weren't really expecting much. Most of the customers in Thai Bite were Caucasians (well, majority of the residents in Aliso Viejo are Caucasians). So we thought Thai Bite is just one of those Americanized Thai restaurants. After taking a bite of the Larb, we were surprised on how "non-American" the dish was. The salad was quite spicy, like the way it supposed to be, and the waitress didn't even ask us if we wanted it spicy. The seasoning tasted very authentic. It was strong Thai flavor seasoning, and they didn't tone it down a bit for the American customers.
Crying Tiger ($10.95)
Prime-cut beef, marinated in Chef's special aromatic Thai spices and charcoal broiled, served on a top of fresh lettuce and spicy lemon sauce on the side.
Dr. P felt like having some beef and picked Crying Tiger. The steak was rubbed with Thai spices and charcoal broiled. It had delicious smoky flavor. It was cooked medium so the meat was still pink and very tender. The spicy lemon dipping sauce was addicting. We loved this dish.
Pineapple Curry ($9.95)
Your choice of chicken, beef, pork or shrimp simmered with pineapple, bell peppers and basil in authentic red curry. (Shrimp add $1.50)
I picked Pineapple Curry with chicken. There were pineapple and red bell pepper in the red curry. Chicken was tender. The curry was delicious and spicy. I ate rice way more than I should because of the curry.
We went back to get takeout a few days later (but didn't pictures that night). We tried Papaya salad, a shrimp dish, and their green curry. Again, everything was very good. We really like Thai Bite. Definitely will be back again soon.

very authentic and fresh tasting. no sweet tastes like a lot of the "americanized" thai places. really like it. If they can only get an authentic thai noodle place down here...
ReplyDeleteI know! I miss Thai Town's noodle soup.
Maybe I should just learn how to cook it myself?!
Welcome to Aliso Viejo!
ReplyDeleteI from Mainland China and have been in AV for 2.5 years. I don't think there is any good chinese restaurants in AV. One sushi I can recommended is located at Pacific Park Dr/Aliso Viejo Parkway (in the plaza has a gas station). Sorry I cannot remember the address and the name. Also, the restaurant does not open on Sunday.
Enjoy your time in AV.
I used Google map and found a restaurant called Makiyaki Japanese Restaurant around there.
Is that the restaurant you are talking about?
yes. Makiyaki - you can try some time and share your experience with us.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Eric.
I'll try Makiyaki soon. ^_^
