We found Anthony's Fish Grotto from San Diego Magazine.  The magazine described the restaurant as affordable and delicious seafood restaurant.  I like affordable, so off we went.

Anthony's Fish Grotto is located right on the downtown harbor.  The restaurant actually has two sides.  One side serves in fast food style.  The other side is the sit down restaurant that serves a more extended menu.

We opted for the nice sit-down restaurant to have a  nice seafood dinner before heading back to L.A.

Mojito ($7.25)

Dr. P started the meal with a glass of Mojito.  I really like minty mojito.

Bread

We absolutely love the sun dried tomato butter that came with the bread.  I could eat a whole basket of bread with the butter.

Oysters on the Half Shell ($10.50)
Fresh from the East. 1/2 Dozen.

We ordered a dozen Oysters on the Half Shell as appetizer.  Nothing taste better than fresh oyster.  Love it!

Grilled Squid Steak Milanese ($15.95)
Our classic recipe, with the flavor of Milan.  Sauteed in Italian bread crumbs.

We ordered two entrees to share.  One of the entree was Anthony's famous Grilled Squid Steak Milanese.  I've never had squid steak Milanese before and had no idea how this dish would look/taste like.

It's a thick piece of squid steak.  The squid was really soft.  The bread crumb tasted buttery.  I liked the dish a lot.  It did felt a little greasy toward the end.  But I will definitely order this again.

House-made Cole Slaw with Creamy Pineapple Dressing

We got to pick 2 sides with each entree.  With the squid steak, we picked baked potato and Cole Slaw.  The Cole Slaw was made with a creamy pineapple dressing.  It was super tasty.

Big Boy Combo ($25.95)
Grilled garlic butter shrimp, a crab cake, and a salmon fillet.  With steamed garden vegetable and citrus rice pilaf.

Another entree we got was the Big Boy Combo.  There were grilled garlic butter shrimp, crab cake, and salmon fillet.  EVERYTHING was delicious.  Dr. P especially like the salmon.  I like all 3 items.  Salmon tasted very fresh, shrimp was garlicky and I love garlic, and the crab cake had tons of fresh crab meat.  This plate was actually enough for 2 people to share.

I like Anthony's Fish Grotto.  The seafood was indeed fresh and delicious.  The price is also very affordable and portion was generous.

This meal concluded our San Diego trip.  We didn't go to any fancy restaurant on this trip.  But I love all the food we had on this trip.  I like San Diego.  We'll definitely visit again.

No, we didn't visit old town.
We drove by the gas lamp area. Was going to stop by.
Then as we were driving around, we thought there really wasn't anything special.
Just whole bunch of store and restaurants. So we just headed http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.

  3. I just went there last week after reading your post. I was really excited about this but it turned out to be a big disappointment. My friend and I both think the squid steak was really gross. It had a sort like gasoline odor and it was drenched in greasy butter! The more we ate the grosser we felt. We also ordered a half-dozen oysters on the half-shell and a fish combo to share. The oysters were fairly fresh but thin and small. My fish was also drenched in butter like the squid steak but even worse, it was way overcooked.

    OMG that's horrible!
We went there awhile back. Seems like their quality has gone down A LOT!
I'm sorry for your bad experience. Thank you for letting me know.
I don't think I'll go back there again when I visit San Diego.
