I went to Nhu Y Ca 8 Mon once a long long time ago. I remember their 8 course fish meal was delicious. But I forgot the name of the restaurant and forgot where it was. Thanks to the Internet that I was able to find the restaurant again.
I googled "8 course fish meal Westminster" and recognized Nhu Y Ca 8 Mon by pictures of the restaurant. Gotta love google.
8 Courses of Fish for $21.99, which is enough for 2 people.
The waiter brought us some sauces along with rice paper and rice noodle. Unfortunately, we saw a little bug floating on one of the sauces. We told the waiter, he took the sauce back, and never brought us another one.
And a plateful of vegetable for us to make our own spring rolls.
Avocado Milkshake
Dr. P ordered an Avocado Milkshake, but the waiter didn't understand. He kept on asking, "milk sake? what is a milk sake? you spell please?" We had to point at somebody else's avocado milkshake on another table to show him.
Goi Ca (Fish Salad)
Fish salad was very refreshing. The salad dressing was sweet and spicy.
Goi Cuon Ca (Fish Spring Rolls)
Fish Spring Roll was great. The fish inside the roll was fluffy, soft and light.
Cha Gio Ca (Fish Egg Rolls) / Ca Chien Don Mam Me (Fried Fish Strips w/ Tamarind Sauce)
Next came a dish with 4 courses. Fish egg rolls was good, but a bit oily. Fried fish strips with tamarind sauce was actually lighter than the egg rolls.
Ca Mo Chai (Wrapped BBQ Fish) / Ca La Lot (Fish Wrapped in Hawaiian Lot Leaf)
I like the wrapped BBQ fish, and LOVE the fish wrapped in Hawaiian lot leaf. The leaf added a really nice fragrance.
I made my own spring roll. I can never make a pretty one. I need to learn how to work the rice paper a little better.
Ca Vi Sat (Sizzling Fish Fillet on Hot Plate)
Sizzling fish fillet on hot plate was tasty with the onion and cilantro.
Chao Ca (Fish Rice Porridge)
Last course was the fish rice porridge. Unfortunately, again, we found a little bug in the porridge. This time the waiter did brought back another bowl for us. I thought the fish rice porridge was pretty good, but Dr. P already lost his appetite after finding bugs, twice.
Overall, I still think the 8 courses of fish was good, but it just wasn't as good as I remember it. Having bugs in your food was definitely now a fun experience. So most likely, we probably won't return here again. Too bad. I liked this restaurant in my memory for years....

bugs in sauce and in porridge! Then again, if there's no bug in food/drink, the place may not be so authentically Vietnamese. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder what would happen if you make a call to the agency that regulates the restaurant letter grade... It will probably receive a surprise visit by an inspector. If bugs (or even roaches) are found, the restaurant may get shut down for clean-up.
The waiter mentioned something about maybe the bugs flew in the sauce/soup at our table.
Hmmmm.... well, I guess that's a really authentic Vietnamese restaurant. haha....
