What to do when you have some time to kill in the afternoon in San Diego? Have dessert, of course.

I read about Karen Krasne's Extraordinary Desserts a long time ago. The pictures on their website always made me drool. Finally I got to try their extraordinary dessert in San Diego.

Their cake is super fancy schmacy. I think I walked back and forth like 7 times and still couldn't decide which cake I wanted to try.

Even their muffin looked too pretty to eat.

I finally decided on the Shangri-La.

We grabbed a seat in the loft style dining area.

Fantinel Prosecco ($9.00)
Dr. P is not that into sweets. So he said he would just have a few bites of my cake. He got a Fantinel Prosecco while watching me eating my cake. The Prosecco came with a rose pedal in it. Not only it looked pretty, it also gave the champagne a nice rose fragrance.

Shangri-La ($7.95)
Layers of Kirsch soaked cake filled with guava and white chocolate mousses with fresh strawberries and finished with whipped cream.
The cake came to the table. There were a lot of woo and wow. It's really not just ordinary dessert. The piece of cake looked almost like an art piece.

I LOVE everything about this cake. The fresh strawberry, the moist cake, the white chocolate, the sauce.

Dr. P had a bite, then a second bite. And he still wanted more. I was like, "I thought you said you're only gonna have 2 bites. Go get your own cake!"

yummmmmooo! I'm not a sweet guy (pun intended :)) but those deserts were so balanced and tasty to the last piece of white chocolate...
ReplyDeleteYou can be a sweet guy if you try hard enough.... haha!
We should go back to Extraordinary Desserts again!
I went there once...forgot the taste since it's been a long time....packed with people at late night...cool place to hang out...
ReplyDeleteIt was quite empty in the afternoon.
They also serve some food. I wonder how good is the food....
good to know that the cake actually look exactly like the ones they promoted on their website :) Have to try it next time then... wish it'd be a closer drive :(
ReplyDeleteI know... I wish they open a store in L.A. area, too!
You should try the passion fruit torte next time! I liked the shangri la until I discovered the passion fruit one. Your comment about driving an hour from Irvine made me laugh. That's how I feel about driving from SD to Irvine for places I like to eat at!
ReplyDeletehaha that's so funny!
We're actually taking about driving down to SD this week.
I'll definitely try Passion Fruit Torte next time. Maybe in a few days? haha....
You should also try their napoliean pie..the best ever...
