[Costa Rica Honeymoon] [Day 2] Restaurante Morpho's

Restaurante Morpho's
50 metres Este of the Banco Nacional
Town Centre, Santa Elena
Monteverde, Costa Rica
(506) 2645-7373

After the tour at Salvatura Park, the shuttle bus took us back to Santa Elena Town Center.  There are a few restaurants in town.  We went into the tourist information center to ask for their recommendation on a lunch spot.  The girl who worked there said they were not supposed to "sell" any restaurant, but she gave us information on two of the more popular restaurants in town.

We picked Restaurante Morpho's.  A group of high school kids were sitting on the 2nd floor balcony celebrating a birthday.

The theme of the restaurant is butterfly.  Yike!  I hate butterfly!

Cafe Caliente con Leche / Hot Coffee with Milk (CR$700) ($1.40)

There were butterflies everywhere!  I felt like running out, but the coffee with milk was excellent so we stayed.

Casados Bistec / Beef Steak (CR$4,000) ($8.00)
Plato tipico con arroz, frijoles, platanos, vegetales, ensalada y su seleccion de carne o vegetariano.
Typical Costa Rican dish with rice, beans, fried platains, steamed vegetables, salad and your choice of meat or vegetarian.

Dr. P ordered Casados Bistec, the typical Costa Rican dish with steak.  Everything was excellent, especially the beef.  The beef was lean, had a tender yet chewy texture, and tasted very clean.

Arroz con Mariscos / Rice with Mixed Seafood (CR$5,500) ($11.00)

I ordered Rice with Mixed Seafood.  There were shrimp, scallop, squid, clam, and mussel in the rice.  Not just the meat was leaner, the seafood also had a smaller size than the ones we were used to in the US.  Everything tasted very fresh.  This rice tasted sorta like paella, but better.  Love the heart of palm with the salad.

Green salsa / Red salsa / Balsamic Vinegar / Olive Oil

Our waiter  brought balsamic vinegar and olive oil for our salad, and green and red salsa to go with food.  The green salsa was super good.

As we were eating, a thunder storm started.  It rained everyday in Costa Rica.  The rain usually started in the afternoon, and only lasted for an hour or two.  We didn't mind hanging out in the restaurant and drink more coffee to wait for the rain to stop.

Simply delicious!  I love Costa Rican food!
