[Costa Rica Honeymoon] [Day 2] Hotel Fonda Vela Hiking Trail

After we got back to the hotel, the rain had stopped. So we thought we would go out and explored the hotel's hiking trail a bit.

We spotted this giant brown rodent when we stepped out of our hotel room.  What is the name of this animal?

We decided to try the Pond Trail.

That's a small and very muddy pond.  I wonder if there are crocodiles in there?

More insects time!  Seriously, everywhere I look, there were insects.  Here is a mantis sitting on some pretty flowers.  Dr. P said this was the first time he's seen a mantis in person.  Really?  We have a lot of those in Taiwan.  I remember seeing them all the time in our elementary school field.

This beetle tried to pretend he's a ladybug.

I must have really good eye to spot insects.  I saw this brown bug as we walked by.  Dr. P was like how in the world did you see that thing?  Can you see it in the picture?

That looked like an abandoned haunted place.  We didn't go near.

Pink fern looked so much prettier than green fern.

Dr. P crossing yet another bridge.

But he didn't dare to cross this "bridge".

Back to the hotel.  It was almost time for dinner....

  1. Wow, this is *such* an interesting post, with real photos of Costa Rica, and the pictures are not unrealistic like those brochure glossy pictures.

Speaking of Taiwan...it would be so interesting if you guys go there some day!!!! I'd love to see what Taiwan looks like, seen through the lens of a Korean-Greek-American.

Taiwan is definitely on our future plan list.
Hopefully we'll be able to go sometime next year!

  2. I think the rodent might be a groundhog. I'm def. not an animal expert though so I'm not sure.

I stared at the picture of the stick insect for 5 minutes and I couldn't spot it! You're right--you do have a really good eye.

I looked up pictures of groundhog on google.
Yup, it definitely looked like a groundhog. Thank you so much for letting me know.
I've been thinking for days about the name of the animal, but nothing came to mind.
The stick insect is in the dead center of the picture... Can you see it now? :-)

  3. That rodent is a capybara.

    Thank you sooooo much, Christine!
Capybara it is! That's what the rodent looks like exactly.
