[Costa Rica Honeymoon] [Day 5] Hotel Costa Verde

After a very long bus ride, we finally arrived at our hotel in Manuel Antonio.  Only 6 of us from the tour group upgraded to the "superior package" with "superior" hotels.  I have to say, the upgrade was totally worth it.  Our hotel looked so much nicer than the "standard" one.

This was the first thing we saw when we arrived.  They found a boa constrictor on one of the pathways in the hotel.  The worker was going to put the snake back to the forest.

We got an ocean view room.  We loved sitting on the rocking chairs and just watch the ocean.  So relaxing!

This was our room, our HAUNTED room!  Ok... remember I said something "scary" happened on this trip in the very very beginning post?  So here is the story....

The first night at Hotel Costa Verde, we were super tired from the long bus ride and went to bed early.  Dr. P said that in the middle of the night, he felt "someone" pulling the blanket off of him.  When he woke up to see what was going on, the blanket was pulled all the way down to his knees.  But he thought he was just dreaming and went back to sleep.

The second night Dr. P went to bed early, but I just couldn't sleep.  I got up to the other bed to use my computer (The bed near the TV in the picture).  It was around 3am Costa Rica time when the "earthquake" hit us.  First the sliding door from the ocean view balcony started shaking, then the bed Dr. P was sleeping on, then the bed I was on, then the window.  The "shaking" lasted for about a minute.  Dr. P jumped up from his sleep.  I was on Plurk and immediately wrote "Earthquake in Costa Rica.  We are so lucky!"  So we both thought that was an earthquake.

Day 3, we asked the hotel staff/restaurant staff/driver about the earthquake last night, and got the same answer from everyone: "Uh... there was no earthquake."  I even went online to look up earthquake information and also didn't find any earthquake info.  The entire day was day at leisure so we didn't see people from our tour group (who stayed in the same building below us).  Dr. P and I still thought maybe it was just a earthquake that hit a very small area... like our hotel building.  Or maybe the hotel ground was shifting or something.  Maybe the people who stayed in the same building felt it, too?  So we decided to ask them the next day when we see them.

Last day in Costa Rica, we saw the people from our tour group at breakfast.  During breakfast, we asked if any of them felt earthquake on that night.  The answer was the same, nope, nobody felt any earthquake.  But.... the people who stayed below us said, "uh.... we didn't really want to ask you guys before, but...  Were you guys running in the room that night?"  They said they heard people running back and forth in our room (above them) that night.  The stomping was so loud that their chandelier on the ceiling was shaking.  They thought it was us running or doing some kind of exercise in the middle of the night.  O...K.....  That definitely wasn't us.

So what was that?  Our personal earthquake?  We're still not sure exactly what happened in Costa Rica.  We weren't really scared or anything because we seriously thought it was just an earthquake until we compared stories.  I was glad that we only found out the strange story as we were leaving.

Anyway, back to the hotel room.  There was a small kitchen area with fridge in the room.  Love that!  We could actually take leftover back and reheat later to eat.

Bathroom, always lots of bugs on the ground though.  Gotta be careful where we step on.

We had a small back balcony and this was the view.  We saw monkeys every morning on these trees.

Except the "haunted" part, I like this hotel.  The view was beautiful.  It was close to town and beach.  The staff was really friendly and nice.  I would still stay here again if we go back to Manuel Antonio, but probably not in the same room though.

  2. btw, I wasn't too scared as well, but have never witnessed anything like it before...

otherwise, really liked how there were a big family of monkeys in the trees behind the room every morning just swinging their way through. guess that banana you left on the balcony worked every time! :)

Seeing the monkeys in the morning was really cool!
Especially when that one monkey jumped on the balcony to grab the banana.

    I know! What a trip!
I wouldn't change a thing about it though.
All those things happened to make our honeymoon more memorable. :-)
