[Los Angeles] [Thai] Hoy-Ka Noodle House

Hoy-Ka Noodle House
5401 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(323) 468-9302

We went up to LA's courthouse to get our marriage license.  Of course we would take the opportunity to have lunch up there.  My first choice was Pink's.  It was Lakers Parade day.  It wasn't very smart of me to suggest Pink's.  The line was long, I mean looooooong!  Majority of the people in line were wearing purple and gold jerseys.  We estimated the wait to be maybe 2 hours.  Oh well.  So on to my second choice, Ord Noodle. (Thanks to Miho, I found out Ord Noodle is now called Hoy-Ka Noodle House.)

I really miss the authentic Thai noodle at Ord Noodle.  Everything can be made either with soup or dry.  When I am in the mood to try more options, I would order 2 small bowls.  But when I know exactly what I want, then I order a large one.

All of the customers in the restaurant were Thai.  That was a good sign.

Thai Iced Coffee ($1.50)

Dr. P ordered a Thai Iced Coffee to prepare for the long drive back to Orange County.

Hoy Ka Noodle ($5.00)
Pork noodle with ground pork, BBQ pork, pork meatballs, pork loaf and liver

I ordered the #1 noodle on the menu, Hoy Ka Noodle.  It tasted sour, sweet, spicy, and savory all in one bowl.  It had so much flavor with every bite.

Boat Noodle ($5.00)
Noodle with beef, liver and tripe in flavored broth

Dr. P ordered his favorite Boat Noodle with beef.  He specific asked for liver and tripe.  He said that one time he went to Ord Noodle with his brother, they didn't give them liver nor tripe, just beef.  They probably thought the non-Asians do not eat internal organs.  But not my Dr. P.  He eats pretty much everything now after years of training by me.  haha....  The boat noodle had stronger flavor than my Hoy Ka Noodle.  It was good, but I like my noodle better.  Dr. P thought my noodle was good, but his was better.

A great cheap eat but so satisfying!  We need a Thai noodle shop like Ord Noodle in Orange County!

  1. Hoy Ka noddle is good but I like Boat noodle better. (I'm Team Dr.P!)

Btw, this place is no longer called Ord Noodle.
It's Hoy-Ka Noodle. (See your menu pic)
The owner sold the original restaurant and opened a new place called Pa Ord Noodle.
I haven't been to the new one, but plan to visit it sometime soon.

Thanks for the info, Miho. I didn't even notice the different name.
The waitress is still the same lady from Ord Noodle, I think.
Let me know how the new Ord Noodle is.

  3. One step closed for being official. :) But I am curious how come you went all the way to LA to get it? Why not just get it in OC?

We are going to have the court ceremony in Beverly Hills courthouse because it's closer to Dr. P's family.
We had to get the marriage license in person, and also make an appointment for the ceremony in person.
I don't quite understand why do we have to make appointment in person.... oh well.
It got us a chance to go up there to eat so I'm not complaining. haha....

  4. Eileen, have you been to Thai Nakorn in Garden Grove? (on GG Blvd east of Harbor) There is another in Stanton but the GG location is better according to what I read on Chowhound and Yelp. I have never ate there but it seems like it is often mentioned for having the best Thai food in the OC area.

No, I haven't try Nakorn YET. haha....
Now I know about the place, I will definitely go try it.
    Thanks for the info, Rich!

  5. If you go, I would dine at the GG location because I saw photos of it on Yelp and it looks so much nicer than the Stanton location (on Beach Blvd). Even though most people say the GG location has better food, I did see somebody on Yelp who wrote that the Beach Blvd location has better food----but I would stick to the GG Thai Nakorn just because of how much better it looks inside.

I guess I'll just have to try both locations to find out for myself.
haha.... another excuse to eat. Perfect!
