I spent the night at my parents' house since Dr. P was out of town on a business trip. Parents and I decided to go get dim sum for breakfast. Our first stop was Capital Seafood on Huntington Drive. What? Closed? It was about 9am, and they open at 10:30am. I thought dim sum restaurants always open early? Next stop, Hop Li on Baldwin. Well, they were also closed. What's up with all the dim sum restaurants opening late in Arcadia? Since Arcadia Garden Cafe is right across the street from Hop Li, we decided just to there for breakfast.
咖啡 Coffee
I remember this place used to be a French restaurant. Growing up in Arcadia, my parents always take us here for Sunday brunch. I miss that restaurant. I've been to Garden cafe in Alhambra and Rowland Heights, but this was my first visit to the Arcadia location. We ordered 2 breakfast combo to share. Both combo came with coffee or tea. I like Hong Kong style coffee with condense milk.
白粥 Porridge
The first breakfast combo was plain porridge with choice of a noodle dish for $6.50. The plain porridge looked really plain, but it didn't taste that way. It had a nice savory taste to it. The rice was cooked for a very long time till it was creamy. I just sprinkled some white pepper on the porridge. A bowl of warm porridge was a great way to start the morning.
干炒牛河 Beef Chow Fun
For the noodle, we picked Beef Chow Fun, which is my dad's favorite. The noodle was a bit oily, but all beef chow fun is oily. The flavor was great. Big pieces of beef, and very tender, too.
麥片 Oatmeal
The other breakfast combo we ordered was western style breakfast for $5.75. The first item in the combo was oatmeal. It was seasoned with just a little bit of sugar. It was pretty good.
花生醬法國吐司 / 培根 Peanut Butter French Toast & Bacon
Peanut Butter French Toast was very tasty. I never had French toast with peanut butter before. Now I know how good it is, I'm going to make it at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.
The 2 breakfast combos had just the perfect amount for 3 of us to share. All that food cost just $15! It was tasty and cheap. I really wish we have a Hong Kong style cafe down in Orange County so I have a place to go to for late night eat and cheap breakfast.

Hop Li closed still this late? That's quite weird, but I haaven't been to Hop Li in months. Usually just go to Full House and Capital (less so). Garden adds dry scallop to their plain porridge which is why you feel there is more flavor.

I remember going to dim sum in Monterey Park around 7am before.
How come dim sum places in Arcadia open that late?
You went to the wrong place. The seafood village next to Arcadia 99 Ranch Market has very good dim sum and it opens early. I have friends who came all the way from Rowland Hts. to try this good dim sum place.

Next time I'm in the area and want dim sum early, I'll be sure to go there.
Lil C, you mean Full House right? ;) Yeah, dim sum is good. You can also special order stuff like cilantro and green onion cheong fun, freshly steamed it is so good!
