I love Groupon because not only I get to save money, but it gives me a chance to try new places.  With a $20 Groupon in hand, I headed to Blackmarket Bakery for some pastry goodies.

Blackmarket Bakery's location was a bit unexpected.  It's not in a shopping plaza, but in one of those business park.  It was a small place, but so many people there on a Saturday afternoon.  I was surprised how good their business are, and I have never heard of this place before when I lived in Irvine?  Those are the pastries I bought:

Citrus Blueberry Coffeecake ($6.75)

Citrus Blueberry Coffeecake was the first one we tried.  After our first bite, both Dr. P and I said the same thing, "This is not that sweet, and it's delicious!"  I couldn't taste the blueberry in the cake itself (not like blueberry muffin kind of blueberry taste is what I meant), but I could taste a lot of citrus (orange I think?).  This coffeecake was so good with coffee.  I guess that why it's called coffeecake?

Berry-Cream Cheese Croissant ($3.00)

I was expecting something sweet when I tried Berry-Cream Cheese Croissant.  But it was unexpectedly not sweet at all.  The croissant itself wasn't sweet nor salty.  It just tasted like regular croissant.  The filling was raspberry and cream cheese.  It was more of a tart taste.  It wasn't bad, but just not what I expected.  (Gosh sorry for the bad pictures!  I realized I should've taken out the plastic bag before taking pictures.  Oopsy!  Too late.  Next time!)

Jalapeno Corn Cheddar Scone ($3.00)

I didn't get to try Jalapeno Corn Cheddar Scone.  Dr. P took it on the road one morning for breakfast.  He came http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com and told me it was really really good.  He said the jalapeno and cheddar scone was just ordinary, but the corn made this one scone super good.

Mocha Shorties ($3.75)

I love the Mocha Shorties.  Those chocolate and coffee cookies were super yummy!

Mumbai Mambo Bar ($2.75)

Mumbai Mambo Bar tasted so different and I loved it!  It had mango, coconut, and curry!  It was like sweet, but then not really because of the curry.  Very unique!

Florentine Bar ($2.75)

Florentine Bar was really good.  Almond and cranberries and honey!  It would be perfect if it doesn't have candied ginger in it.  I just don't like ginger.  But my sister has been telling me all the health benefits of eating ginger.  So I'm learning to eat it more.

What a good find!  I like this little bakery.  Will go back to pick up something again when I'm in the area.

  2. (Oh, and if you wanna go to Harry's Deli anytime after 1pm, I would call to make sure they still have the sandwich you want.. they are so popular that sometimes they run out! And sometimes they close early too cuz they run out of food so calling ahead is always a good idea there)

Ok! I'll make sure I go really early!!
