[Los Angeles] [Korean] Hae Jang Chon Restaurant

Hae Jang Chon Restaurant

We decided to have all you can eat Korean BBQ for dinner because (1) I love Korean BBQ; (2) it's cheap and affordable; and (3) Little J is growing and that boy can eat!  He loves meat and all you can eat seemed to be the best choice to feed a hungry boy.

Hae Jang Chon is located in a Korean plaza off 6th St, next to Cafe Nandarang (ahhh... drinking in Ktown back in the days...).  We got to the restaurant around 5:15pm.  No wait.

Banchan

Only 2 banchans were offered, spinach and cucumber.  But we were not there to eat vegetables so I didn't mind the limited banchan.  Give me MEAT!

Dipping Sauce

4 different kinds of dipping sauce, along with some jalapeno and garlic.

Noodle & Radish

I love wrapping my meat with noodle sheet and marinated thin slice of radish.

Kimchi

The waitress left a pot of kimchi on the small table behind us.  So I thought, "Nice!  All you can eat kimchi in a pot."  So we all got some kimchi in our plate.  But, the kimchi tasted different.  It was a little more sour, and not as crisp as usual.  Well, turned out that the kimchi were not meant to be eaten "buffet" style.

Bean Sprout

Some "not meant for buffet either" bean sprout in a pot.

Salad

Fresh salad to go with the meat.  Love the dressing.  But it was missing some green onion.

All you can eat BBQ is $16.99 per person.  They offer 5 kinds of meat.  We ordered them all.

Steamed Egg

Before we started grilling, the waitress brought us some steamed egg first.  7 of us, we got 3 eggs.  Soft and flavorful steamed egg, yum!

Kimchi Pancake

While we were enjoying the steamed egg, our waitress started cooking for us.  This was when I realized the kimchi and bean sprout was meant to be grilled first....  The waitress put the kimchi pancake on top of the kimchi and bean sprout.

Black Angus Beef Brisket & Canadian Fresh Pork Belly

Yes, meat!  The Black Angus Beef Brisket was really good.  It cooked fast, too.  So we started with that since we were so hungry.

Canadian Fresh Pork Belly

The Canadian Fresh Pork Belly must be their specialty (maybe that's why they have a little piggy on their sign?).  It was the best pork belly I've ever had in a AYCE Korean BBQ restaurant.  The meat was cut thicker and it had just the right amount of lean pork and fat.  We stir fried the pork with some kimchi on the grill, and it was super delicious!

Marinated Choice Beef Short Ribs, BBQ Chicken & BBQ Cuttlefish

Marinated Choice Beef Short Ribs was my favorite type of meat for Korean BBQ.  It was tender and really good.  Little J loved the BBQ Chicken.  I thought it was better than I expected.

BBQ Cuttlefish

BBQ Cuttlefish was fresh and really soft.  Next time I would grill it last though.  Because then the grill got that fishy taste and all the meat we cooked after the cuttlefish kinda tasted like cuttlefish.

Then the restaurant started filling up.  There were a lot of older Korean customers, which means good food + good price.  You just can't fool old people.

Our waitress cleaned our grill a few times throughout the meal.  She cleaned it with shredded radish!  It was the first time I've seen restaurant clean the grill that way.  Radish somehow soaked up all the grease and the burned black thinging on the grill.  Magical!

Kimchi Fried Rice

After we finished the meat, the waitress cooked some kimchi fried rice on the grill for us.  We were so full, but still managed to finished all the rice.  The fried rice wasn't spicy at all, but had tons of seaweed flavor.  It was so good and I wished I wasn't that full so I could eat more fried rice.

Bean Paste Soup

Bean Paste Soup was a little salty, but still good.  No bowls though.  Everyone had to use your own spoon and share the saliva soup.

I like how they put fried rice on one side, and left the soup on the other side of the grill to keep it warm.

Delicious!  I really like this all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurant.  We will definitely come back again.

We left the restaurant around 8pm.  There were so many people waiting outside.  I would suggest coming here for an early dinner.

I used to like Mu Dung San.
But after eating at Hae Jang Chon, I don't think I'll ever go back to Mu Dung San again.
Hae Jang Chon is much much better. You gotta try this place.

  4. Wow, great pork belly! It is interesting though that their panchan isn't very big, and that the kimchi and beansprouts didn't taste they how they are supposed to when you tried them out.

Does this place serve rice too along with everything?

You can pick kimchi fried rice or white rice.

  5. The grill looks really different from other Korean restaurant. The food looks pretty special too. I'll definitely keep this place in mind!

I like their grill. The meat tasted really good after cooking on it.
And it cleans really well just with some shredded daikon.

  8. I LOVE THIS PLACE. O_O It was my all time favorite until I happened upon Ma Dang Sae for my birthday. What makes this place better is that it costs $13 or $15 per person for AYCE, depending on which 'order' you get. They have shrimp and a delicious cow tongue and prime rib. =) Highly recommended.

Thanks for the info. Added Ma Dang Sae to my "to-try" list.
