My parents' friend recommended this new Sheng Dong restaurant.  So we took my aunt and cousins here for lunch before they headed back to San Jose.

Special Smoked Fish ($4.95)

Dad ordered two appetizers.  One was smoked fish.  I never liked smoked fish.  But dad and cousins liked it.

Mustard Green Bean ($3.50)

This appetizer was ordered for mom and aunt.  I didn't think it was anything special, but they liked it.

Lamb Soup (Served w/ Shao Bing) ($9.95)

Now the lamb soup, I like it.  The soup was cooked to a creamy color.

Inside the soup, there were lamb meat, skin, and liver.  It was the first time I had lamb liver.  The soup was very very flavorful and hearty.

Shao Bing??

On the menu, it said that the lamb soup comes with Shao Bing.  But instead of shao bing, they gave us "flower roll", or green onion bun.  Or Shang Dong people called this shao bing?

(10) Pumpkin Steam Dumplings ($5.95)

We ordered the pumpkin steamed dumplings.  The waiteress made sure by asking us again that the dumpling was a vegetarian choice.

What was inside the dumpling?  Black ear mushroom, glass noodle, and celery.  But no pumpkin.  No pumpkin?  But it was pumpkin dumpling.  The dumpling was good, but still....  It was false advertisement.

(8) Mixed 3 Items Fried Stuffed Bun ($6.50)

We overheard people from other people ordering their fried stuffed bun and was saying it was the best fried stuffed bun they've ever tasted.  So we ordered two.  The buns were fried in a pan then flipped onto a plate with the thin layer of crispy crust from the bottom of the pan.

The fried stuffed bun was pretty big.

This one had pork, shrimp and black ear mushroom.  I really like their fried bun.  The bottom was crispy, the bun was soft and chewy, and the filling was tasty.  Highly recommend this dish.

(8) Beef Celery Fried Stuffed Bun ($6.50)

We also ordered the beef celery fried stuffed bun.  It was saltier than the previews one.  We like the mixed 3 items one better.

Vegetable Pork Wonton ($4.95)

When the vegetable pork wonton was brought to our table, the first thing we noticed was how much veggies were in the soup.

There were 12 pork wontons in the soup.  All for less thatn $5!

My parents and aunt really liked this restaurant.  My dad's been talking about going back again for their fried bun.  Mom raved about the wonton soup.  I also thought these two dishes were the best items.  Overall, I thought this restaurant was just average.  But I will definately go back for the 3 items fried bun and wonton soup.

  5. Are you sure this is Shandong style restaurant? Every single item above are Shanghai or Jiang-Zhe style, except the dumpling, which looked pretty aweful, and the "shao bing" which is actually YinSiJuan (Silver Strand Roll). Perhaps they have changed the menu or the chef...
