I bought a $7 for $14 Groupon for Le Arbre Tea House thinking that when I go up to SGV, I could stop by to get some pork chop rice to bring home. I got there, asked for the menu, and couldn't find pork chop rice on the menu. A Taiwanese place without pork chop rice? Boohoo~~~~ They only have maybe 5 or 6 food items, 2 of them were not available for take-out (noodle soup dishes), and they didn't have 2 of the other items that day, so that only left me with 2 choices. After placing the to-go order, I had to wait for a good 20+ minutes for the food to be ready.
雞腿飯 Chicken Leg Rice
Chicken Leg Rice was about $7. It was pricey, but it also came with a drink (tea or milk tea) and a dessert (coffee jelly). The chicken had a smokey flavor. It was good, but nothing too special. The side dishes were corn and cucumber salad (that used too much vinegar). Everything was served with plain white rice. I think it would be better if they had Taiwanese meat sauce over the rice.
香腸飯 Taiwanese Sausage Rice
Taiwanese Sausage Rice was also about $7. You can pick two dipping sauces for the sausage. I got garlic and shacha. The sausage tasted pretty lean. But for $7, I think this was overpriced.
I also got a popcorn chicken, which was quite good. I had to pay another $7 on top of the $14 Groupon, which made all 3 items to be about $21. I think this is expensive for a Taiwanese eatery for mediocre food. Perhaps they specialize in drinks more than food? But even their drinks seem overpriced at about $5. I don't know. Plenty of other choices around the area. I don't think I'd return here again.

I also got the groupon, but haven't gone yet. Also there is a massage place in the same plaza we go often. Really good! :) It is next to the wonton place.
ReplyDeleteI was looking at the Vietnamese sandwich shop in that plaza.
It was full of people when I was there. Food must be pretty good.
Have you tried that place?
no, but i tried the wonton place. good wonton, you can have it with fish ball, beef, etc. Dirt cheap too.
ReplyDeleteIf I go around that plaza again, I'll go try the wonton place.
Thanks for the great info! :-)
