Wanted to buy Listerine Whitening Rinse. It was advertised on their weekly ad as on sale for $3.99. But the price was still shown as $8 at register. I showed the cashier the ad, and she just kept on repeating but the register didn't have the sale price.
I could've saved another $7 ($5 Applied Nutrition coupon, $1 Icy Hot Cream coupon, and $1 RR that the cashier missed), and pay only $6.03 for everything. :-(

Had a pretty good shopping trip, except the trouble at Walgreens. I never had trouble using coupons with the other cashiers. It was my first time checking out with that particular cashier, and I will make sure never go to her again. Came home and had a snack of coffee and hot dog. Everything was bought with coupons! Oh yeah, and a side of a Red Box DVD, also FREE with a promotional code. (I Am Number Four is pretty entertaining!)
Did you coupon shop this weekend? Or plan to this week? What did you buy?

I'm having hotdogs for lunch today too, with the stuff bought with coupons at Vons the other day. What was the trouble you encountered at Walgreens?
ReplyDeleteThe cashier wouldn't take a $5 coupon and another $1 coupon.
She also missed a $0.99 RR that I gave her.
So all together I overpaid $7! :-(
Are both coupons manufacturer's coupons? She is supposed to take it when one is store coupon and one is M's. I used to "argue" and get their supervisor involved to get the appropriate discount.
ReplyDeleteOne is their own Walgreen coupon, and the other one's manufacturer's coupon.
(I wrote about the detail in my post.)
I didn't argue with the cashier that day. But I wrote them an email later.
Let's see if I'll hear back from Walgreens.
My Walgreens cashier also refused to take the $1.00 Icy Hot coupon at first, and after I told her to adjust the coupon value down to $0.99, she said she would do it, but "only this time". Walgreens' coupon policy clearly states "The coupon amount must be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied." You can print out a copy of the coupon policy here:

I will be keeping a copy in my purse next time I go to Walgreens!
My $5.00 coupon for Applied Nutrition also didn't go through. It was disappointing, but getting it for free is still not bad.
Thank you so much for the info about Walgreens coupon policy.
I will keep a copy with me also! Although I could've saved a bit more, I am still quite happy with the result.
I can't complain about free, right? haha... Thank you, Carin!
Hi Eileen,
ReplyDeleteI go to Ralphs alot because they frequently run those Buy 10 (of the promo products that week) and get a discounted rate (sometimes it comes out to 50%). But also because Ralphs do double coupons! Usually this is the manufacturer's coupon, not the catalina (the coupon that comes out after you pay), not the ralphs/store coupons.
Lately I noticed that if you don't ask the cashier for the double coupon, they DON'T give it to you automatically. I overpaid by several dollars last time I was at Ralphs and didn't notice that they didn't double it.
I also look for cashiers who look like they've been cashiers for awhile. They know what they are doing with those coupons compared to newly hired staff.
I didn't realize the cashier had to enter the double coupon value.
I thought the register automatically does it. Thanks for letting me know the info.
I will pay more attention next time I shop at Ralphs.
