There are many restaurants that we like and return quite frequently, but Chong Qing Mei Wei has to be our MOST frequently visited restaurant.
水煮牛魚 Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce ($10.99)
The dish Dr. P can never do without, Boiled Beef and Fish with Hot Sauce. Not only he's stubborn about ordering this dish EVERY TIME, he's also stubborn about the two items that he chooses. It's always beef and fish. No exception.
五更腸旺 Braised Pig Intestine & Pig Blood ($8.99)
And I am stubborn about intestine. Every time I see intestine on the menu, I want to order it. Braised Pig Intestine & Pig Blood is one of my dad's favorite dish to order in restaurants so I grow up eating this dish. Chong Qing Mei Wei did a good job making this dish. The intestine was soft. Lots of tofu, leek, and pickled veggie. But we wished there were more pig blood. The sauce wasn't too spicy, but just spicy enough to be eaten with 3 bowls of rice.
乾扁四季豆 Sauteed Green Beans w/ Ground Pork ($7.99)
Sauteed Green Beans with Ground Pork was done just right. The beans were still crisp. Love the little pieces of ground pork's flavor on the beans.
酸辣湯 Spicy and Sour Soup ($6.99)
Our waiter told us he's not a fan of their spicy and sour soup, but we ordered it anyway. We had it before and enjoyed it. This time it was still good, but somehow not as good as last time. The flavor was just a bit off.
3 days after eating at Chong Qing Mei Wei, Dr. P wanted to go back again. Do you think they add crack cocaine in their food? Why is it so addicting?

I like a waiter who is honest and not afraid to criticise some menu items. Too many times they will just say "Everything here is good".
ReplyDeleteI agree! I love waiters/waitresses who are not afraid to give their honest opinion.
Since we've been going to Chong Qing for such a long time, our favorite waiter there will always give us honest suggestions when we ask him.
If we order a dish that he's not a fan of, he'll politely let us know his opinion.
But he'll say it's his own taste, we can still try it if we like. Most of the time, he's right though.
