We tried another Groupon restaurant, Vintage Steakhouse, and celebrated finishing my last semester of school here. The groupon was $35 for $70 of food and drink at Vintage Steakhouse.
Vintage Steakhouse is located in San Juan Capistrano, one of the oldest city in Orange County. The restaurant looked like a train from outside.
And the restaurant IS in the train. The dining room is the actual train that was built in the 1920's. It was really cool that the metro track is right next to the restaurant, and we could see the metro train passing by from the window. It gave us the illusion that we were actually dining on a moving train.
Bread
The meal started out with some warm rolls and butter.
Napa Cabernet ($9.95)
A glass of Napa Cabernet to go with the steak.
Caesar Salad ($7.95)
Crisp Romain lettuce tossed in a traditional Caesar dressing with garlic croutons and Parmesan cheese
We shared an order of Caesar Salad. The kitchen split the salad for us before the waiter brought it to the table. The dressing was rich, but it tasted like it lacked something. We both thought the Caesar Salad from Stonefire Grill is better.
Roasted Lamb Rack ($28.95)
Colorado Rack of Lamb grilled on our mesquite grill in a pool of a thyme garlic demi-glace and served with the chef's fresh vegetable selection and your selection of Potato Creation
Our waiter recommended Roasted Lamb Rack, and Dr. P took his suggestion. The lamb was cooked medium, very very tender. The thyme and garlic demi-glace was divine. Dr. P loved the roasted lamb rack so much that he said it was probably one of the best rack of lamb he's ever had. He ordered Baked Potato with the lamb, which came with butter, green onion, and bacon bits. Where is the sour cream? The waiter said they didn't have sour cream. Hmmm....
Filet Mignon ($28.95)
Filet Mignon grilled over our mesquite grill, finished with your selection of sauce and Potato Creation, accompanied by the chef's selection of fresh vegetables
I had Filet Mignon with Twice Baked Potato. The twice baked potato was super yummy. I also like the creamed corn a lot.
The steak was cooked to a perfect medium with pink in the center. The meat was very juicy and soft. The surface of the steak was a bit too burnt for my taste, but it was full of flavor.
Wild Mushroom Bordelaise
The sauce that I picked to go with the Filet Mignon was Wild Mushroom Bordelaise. It was a rich sauce with lots of mushroom. Perfect with the steak.
Apple Blossom ($6.95)
Rich pastry filled with granny smith apples, walnuts and caramel sauce served with Vanilla Bean ice Cream
Dr. P picked Apple Blossom for dessert. There were a lot of apple inside the baked puffed pastry drizzled with caramel sauce. The warm pastry and apple tasted so good with icy cold vanilla ice cream.
After applying the $70 Groupon, our complete meal of wine - salad - steak / lamb - dessert was only $20! Isn't Groupon just awesome? We love the food at Vintage Steakhouse. Service was good, too. It's a great place to celebrate a special occasion.
After the meal, we walked around the neighborhood a little. Here is another view of the "restaurant train".
We noticed that across the train track there was this cute little plaza with some very vintage looking buildings around it.
This area is the Los Rios Historic District. We wanted to walk around to see the area, but it was a little too dark to see anything. We shall return on another time during the day.
Metro track at night. I love this photo!

ha, you did pay $35 for the coupon, so the total comes to $55 plus tip that based on $80 something, right?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it's still a bargain. The food looks very good. i am just being nerdy =)
Yup, we ended up paying about $70 for the entire meal.
Still a good bargain for good quality food and service. ^^
Thanks, Eileen. My boys love trains. Now, I have a new place for them!
ReplyDeleteI hope they'll have fun here! ^^
Eileen,
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome - I see that the same deal is offered on ScreaminCoupons today - so I have to give it a try! Also just an FYI - not sure if you have checked it out already but the Los Rios District has some awesome places to eat - the Ramos House has one of the best breakfasts around - very tasty but pricey although I think its worth the splurge - also the tea house over there is a great place to meet girlfriends for lunch - I highly recommend both and there is a cute petting zoo - for the kiddies. Anyway - thanks for the post on the Vintage.
We gotta try Ramos House next time!
Vintage Steakhouse is great. The 1/2 off deal is awesome!
Hope you and Todd will enjoy the food. ^^
