[Irvine] [Vietnamese] Jamboree Kitchen

Jamboree Kitchen

We were looking for a restaurant near our apartment for dinner.  I found a coupon for Jamboree Kitchen.  It is a Vietnamese eatery only 5 minutes away from  our place.  We headed over to the "restaurant" that is in the same plaza as Melting Pot.

We circled around the parking lot, and couldn't find the "restaurant".  Then Dr. P saw the food court, and said, "I think it might be inside the food court."  Yup, he was right.  Jamboree Kitchen is located inside the food court in this plaza.  But they didn't even have a sign outside the food court.  The food court was completely empty on a Saturday night.  I don't think I would want to have my dinner here on a Saturday night, either.  Had I known it is a food court eatery, I probably wouldn't be there.

Pho Dac Biet ($6.95)

We got a bowl of Pho Dac Biet, the specialty combination pho with everything in it.  There were beef, tripe, tendon, and beef balls.  The pho was surprisingly good.  The rice noodle was cooked just right.  The broth was flavorful.  The meat was tender.  We enjoyed the pho quite a bit.

BBQ Beef Rice ($5.95)

Our coupon was for "buy 1 entree get 1 for 50% off".  So we got this BBQ beef rice for half price of $3.47.  When I saw the food, I asked Dr. P, "Are you sure this is BBQ beef?"  This BBQ beef looked completely different than any Vietnamese BBQ beef I've ever had.  I don't think the meat was grilled.  It was more like stir-fried beef with brown sauce.  It wasn't bad, but it tasted nothing like Vietnamese BBQ, but more like a Chinese dish.  Dr. P refused to eat it.  But I actually enjoyed it as leftover the next day.

Soup

A bowl of free soup came with the beef rice.  One sip of the soup, it went into the trash can.  The soup tasted like MSG soup.  No good.

I actually liked Jamboree Kitchen.  The food is cheap, has big portion, and doesn't taste too bad.  Next time I'm craving for Vietnamese food, I can come here to get some cheap takeout.

  1. I went to this plaza visiting my dentist for many years by now, and had no clue there was a food court there!

We drove around the plaza for like 5 times and I didn't notice the food court, either.
If it wasn't for Dr. P, I would never find this place.

  2. I love food courts because I get to try different "restaurants" in one meal, haha, and we've discovered some really delicious and authentic food at the local food courts here. But I agree with you, not on a Saturday night, lol.

I also like food court. But this food court was big and completely empty on that Saturday night.
It made me feel really awkward sitting there.... >_<
