Over Thanksgiving weekend, Dr. P and I took an one day trip to Santa Barbara. The drive up there was beautiful. We arrived Santa Barbara downtown around 1pm and headed to Opal Restaurant for lunch.
Opal Restaurant is a cute little New American style restaurant. As we walked up to the restaurant, I saw a "bee" sitting by the window. Well, wearing shirt with big yellow and black stripes will make you look like a bee. So don't do it! haha....
The restaurant wasn't too busy. Service was good, but slow. We waited for more than 30 minutes for our entrees.
Bread
I didn't like the bread. It was cold and didn't taste fresh.
G-Starlane Sauvignon Blanc ($8.95)
Dr. P got a glass of sauvignon blanc. We both liked this local wine a lot.
Lemon Grass Crusted Fresh Salmon Filet with a Thai Curry Sauce ($12.95)
Dr. P ordered Lemon Grass Crusted Salmon with Thai Curry Sauce. It was served with sauteed julienne vegetables and basmati rice. The salmon was very flavorful. The Thai curry sauce had a very nice coconut milk and lemon grass fragrance. Very good dish. We both like this dish a lot.
Sauteed Fresh Bay Scallops with Angel Hair Pasta ($12.25)
I got the Bay Scallops Pasta with pesto, toasted walnuts, goat cheese and garlic cream sauce. Scallops and goat cheese, yum! But this dish actually didn't turn out to be as good as I expected. The pasta was drenched in oil and butter. It was good for a few bites. But way too heavy and oily after a while. The scallops were great though.
We really enjoyed the wine and the salmon dish. The price is very reasonable. Even though we didn't like the pasta, we still think it's a good and charming little restaurant.
