We decided to go on the Norwegian Cruise Line's 7 days Mexican Riviera back in October. We got a ocean view state room for the sale price of $379 per person. $379 for 7 days? That's only $54 a day, which includes EVERYTHING (well, except alcohol)! Unbelievable price. On top of that, each of us also got $50 on board credit. Price for the following week (this week) jumps up to $1,200 for a ocean view room because of the holiday season. We were really lucky to get the incredible price.
Our ship is called Norwegian Star. It runs the Mexican Riviera route from October through April. Then from May to September, it travels to Alaska.
There were about 1,200 crew member on the ship, along with about 1,000 passengers. We arrived at Los Angeles Port in San Pedro to board the ship around 1:00pm. The line was long, but we moved quickly.
Crew members welcomed us with champagne when we got on the ship. I downed mine right away. Hey, it was the rare occasion of free alcohol offer on the ship and I just couldn't say no to that. We then headed to the buffet right away for lunch (will write about food in next post). This was the view from the ship at the buffet. We can see the Princess cruise parked at the next terminal.
Then there's the parking lot. The port is designed pretty much like an airport. It has a road that goes around it in a big circle with different terminals along the way for different cruise lines. Parking lot is in the middle. The rate is $12/day.
On the other side of the ship, it was the ocean side. We saw lots, I mean LOTS of Evergreen cargoes. Evergreen is a Taiwanese company! I'm proud.
And that was where we were going.... Out to the sea to Mexico!

Eileen - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I am thinking of cruise, too. You've been on cruise for several times and hopefully this time is better than last time!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Sheri.
Our cruise experience is getting better and better each time.
I was on the same cruise. Like a lot but over all
ReplyDeletethe food was very bad! I only went on 2 cruises and the
1st was Holland America to Alaska and it was great.
I think NCL cut back big time with all of the food.
In short the breads were stale and meat was not flavorful.
I wish I could have brought an ex con to compare the food
to that of prison. I wonder what is better?
We heard the same thing from a couple we shared the table with over dinner.
They said both Holland America and Royal Caribbean have better food and better service.
We only went on Carnival's Ensenada cruise before.
So NCL's food is already much better comparing to previous experience. haha....
We are working our way up to better and better cruises. ^^
