Tuesday is now my least favorite day of the week.  I tried to cram all my classes into 2 days so I only have to drive to school twice a week.  But that also means I have full day classes for 2 days.  I have two classes with labs on Tuesday that go from 9am to 9pm.  Yesterday for my morning class, we had 5 hours lecture with 10 minutes break, then we had lab for 2 hours.  It was a super long class.  By the time I got out, I was starving, and only had 1 hour to eat before my next class started.  So I went across street to search for something fast to eat.

I passed by Upper House and saw that they offered a daily special bento with a drink for $4.99.  Sounds like a good deal to me.  Upper House is boba tea shop that also offers simple Taiwanese food.  I placed my order at the counter.  This is a cash only place.  I thought most boba tea house offers free wi-fi, but not at this place. But they have a bookshelf filled with Chinese comic books and magazine.

Chicken Cutlet Daily Special Combo ($4.99)

The daily special for Tuesday was Cutlet Chicken.  It came in a bento box with different compartments.  There were salad with ranch dressing, cold bean sprout, cold cucumber, fried chicken cutlet, rice with meat sauce, and a fortune cookie.  Oh and it also came with a cup of black tea or green tea.  The cold vegetable dishes were just alright.  The chicken cutlet was really crispy on the outside, and the meat was tender.  But it didn't have much flavor though.  They gave a bowl of watery curry sauce for dipping.  The sauce would be better if it wasn't so watery.  Portion was quite big.  I was super hungry, but could only finish half of the rice.  Because I hate to waste food, I kinda forced myself to finish all the chicken.  The food wasn't bad, but wasn't exactly good, either.  Well, at least it was cheap.

Side note, I love reading on my Kindle when dining alone. ^^

I felt the same about almost all the restaurants I tried in that plaza that the food is catering toward college kids.  Food tasted ok, price is reasonable, and portion is big.  That's pretty much it.  Next time I have a longer break, I am going to venture out to find better food around this area.

  1. Eileen, go around the corner (same plaza) to Yummy House. It's on the Burger King/East West Bank/Stater Bros. side. It's a Taiwanese place, very similar to 好年東. Their Taiwanese food is pretty good to me. I like their oyster pancake a lot, and also their 大腸包小腸 (I think I got that right) a lot. They also have lots of rice and noodle dishes that are pretty good, too. Much better than the "college student choices" around the other side of that plaza.

    Thank you for the info.
I am going to try Yummy House next week when I go to school!
    Thanks, Pink!
