[Santa Ana] [Thai] Siam Taste of Asia

Siam Taste of Asia
3520 W 1st St
Santa Ana, CA 92703

I have read so many good reviews about Siam Taste of Asia on various blogs and restaurant review websites.  We actually tried to go for dinner once a few months back, but unfortunately we found out that they are closed on Tuesday.  We finally tried again on Saturday night, and now I am adding one more good review for Siam Taste of Asia.

The restaurant was completely full when we arrived.  They had two big parties that night.  The restaurant was filled with Thai people.  It was a really good sign when a ethnic restaurant is filled with people from their own country.  Food must be good and authentic.

Unlike most Thai restaurants with 15 pages menu, Siam Taste of Asia has its entire menu on one sheet of people.... and one side only.  I actually like restaurant with a small menu.  When they only do a few dishes, it usually means that they do a really good job on those dishes.

Thai Iced Tea ($2.50)

Gotta have Thai Iced Tea at Thai restaurant.  So I asked Dr. P, "How was the iced tea?"  According to Dr. P's description, "This Thai Iced Tea has nice balance of tannins, foiled by the roundness of the cream, accentuated by the soothing bite of the ice."  I was like, "huh?  What does that mean?"  Dr. P replied, "It tastes good."  He's such a nerd!  haha....

They had some chili sauces on the table.  We love the red chili sauce.  It was super spicy, and I could taste fish sauce.  Love it!

Rice ($1.00/person)

The rice came in a fancy smancy looking silver pot.

Fried Tofu ($5.95)
Deep fried tofu topped off with garlic sauce

When the waiter brought the Fried Tofu to our table, the garlic sauce smelt so good.  Crispy skin with silky tofu inside, topped with garlic sauce, and dipped in sweet fish sauce.  The appetizer was really good.  Portion is definitely too big for 2 people.  Fried food is never good the next day.  We had the leftover today.  It was all soggy, and just not the same as how we had it in the restaurant.

Tom Yum Goong ($11.95)
Spicy and sour soup w/ lime juice, mushrooms, lemon grass, galangal, lime leaf, fresh chili & cilantros

Every dish was great, but Tom Yum Goong was my favorite of the night.  The spicy and sour soup had lots of straw mushroom, enoki mushroom, and big fat shrimp.  The broth was so addicting.  I was full, but still wanted more of this delicious soup.

Green Curry ($6.95)
Chicken w/ coconut cream, bamboo shoots, eggplants & green beans

Green Curry had great flavor, but it was a little too soupy.  I wish they would make the curry sauce thicker, and that would be better to mix with rice.  We like how they had a lot of vegetables in the curry.

Paht Pakboung Faidang ($6.95)
Stir fried morning glory, red chili and garlic w/ soy bean sauce

Paht Pakboung Faidang, or stir fried morning glory, was really good.  I can simply have this dish with rice for a meal, and be very satisfied.  Fresh vegetable, and great taste.

The owner came to talk to us at the end of the meal.  She asked us if we waited too long for our food.  She said that she was so busy in the kitchen with those two big parties, and wanted to apologized that she didn't get our food out sooner.  We actually didn't wait for too long at all.  She was so nice and friendly, which leaves us an even better impression of the restaurant.

Love the food, love the service, great portion, reasonable price.  We both agree that this Thai restaurant is MUCH MUCH better than the Thai restaurants in Irvine. We will definitely be back again very soon!

  1. terrific food! I still love lotus of siam, but this place is a bit more balanced and easier to eat. I wanna try the seabass curry next time. :)

I don't like Lotus of Siam anymore. The taste is too strong there.
I like Siam Taste of Asia so much better. Can't wait to go back again.
Next time I want the coconut milk soup, curry seabass, and chicken larb!

  3. Have you tried reheating the deep-fried leftovers in the oven? I usually do that at at least 350 deg and they usually turn out okay.

Oh yeah, that's a great idea for reheating leftover deep fried food.
Dumb dumb me never thought of that. haha....
Definitely will do that next time. Thanks Jess.

  5. I totally agree--it's always a good sign when an ethnic place is full of people of the ethnicity and I like small menus too. I totally agree with Jess--the oven is the way too go with fried food. Or pan-fry it--that works too.

Pan fry is a good idea, too.
No more microwave reheating for fried food!
