[Rosemead] [Chinese] 888 Seafood Restaurant

Yesterday was our wedding location scouting day.  We went to 7 different restaurants in one day!  We thought we would try to eat at all restaurants.  Well, we ended up getting way too full at our first location, 888 Seafood Restaurant, and didn't eat at any other places.  It was 888's fault.  Why did they make their dim sum so good?

蝦腸粉 Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll ($3.10)

As we were talking to the manager, the first dim sum cart came by with rice noodle rolls.  I picked the shrimp one.  The shrimp in the roll was huge!

牛筋 Beef Tendon ($2.50)

Stewed Beef Tendon was soft and chewy.  Really good!

排骨 Pork Short Ribs ($2.50)

Pork Short Ribs was meaty and juicy.  There were taro strips on the bottom of the plate.

蝦餃 Shrimp Dumpling ($2.50)

Dr. P ate a shrimp dumpling before I took the picture.  The dumpling was very big.  They really give you a lot of shrimp here.

鹹水餃 Fried Pork Dumpling

We like fried pork dumpling because it got that sweet + salty combination.

燒賣 Siu Mai ($2.50)

We asked one of the dim sum cart lady for Siu Mai.  She said she didn't have it, but the kitchen was making more.  Then she brought the Siu Mai to us directly from the kitchen a little later.  So nice of her.  The Siu Mai was piping hot and so good!

We were really full for the whole day after dim sum at 888.  All that food for $16?  We had way less dim sum items in Irvine, and it was double that amount.  And the dim sum in Irvine wasn't even good....  After dim sum at SGV, I don't think I ever want to have dim sum again in OC.  I rather drive out to SGV to have good and reasonable priced dim sum.

  1. 888 dim sum never disappoints. BTW, Capital Seafood in Arcadia is open for business.

It is? I'll go check it out soon.

  2. Man that was some terrific dim sum. OC is so ridiculously overpriced for inferior quality dim sum it's shocking! I think we paid nearly $40 for less food down here and it was not good. SGV dim sum rocks!!!

We should try going to Rowland Heights for dim sum next time
    It's closer than SGV. ^^

  3. Looks great! I haven't been to 888 in a long time, mainly due to the parking. Always enjoyed their food though.

I was just going to say Capital Seafood in Arcadia is open now :) and assuming it is new and is the same chain as the Irvine one I think it will be quite nice.

I didn't like the one in Irvine that much.
But I would love to try the Arcadia one.
Hopefully price is cheaper here in SGV.

  5. Hi Eileen,
Just tried some of the food from Capital in Arcadia since my dining companions went. The prices are slightly cheaper (1.88, 2.88, so on) and the food is pretty good. However employees were not very good yet, but I don't blame them since today is just the second day they opened.

I'm going to try this new restaurant soon.
    Thanks for the info.

  6. We tried Lunasia Chinese Cauisine when we were in LA. My husband (he is from Hong Kong) loves Dim Sum from there, too. Their Dim Sum is a bit pricey but it is worth. It is at 500 West main street, #a, Alhambra, CA 91801. Next time, when you are in a dim sum place, try to order "炸兩" (腸粉包油條),很不錯吃噢!

Did you spend time to drink tea and enjoy the dim sum? :-)

Nope, we always eat pretty fast, too.
But I saw the older Cantonese or Hong Kong people always spend their time eating.
They usually bring newspaper with them, and just sit there, eat, drink, and read all morning.
I've never had dim sum from Lunasia, but heard a lot of good things about their food.
Would love to try it in the near future.

  7. I love 888 for their mango pudding! Next time if you have a chance, get it at the dim sum. It looks so so, but the mango flavor tastes like someone pureed the fresh mangos and mixed it in the custard. YUMM !!!!! Honeybuns and I have to get 2 orders each as dessert.

You're making me want to go to 888 to try the mango pudding NOW! haha...
Will definitely try one next time!
