I've only been to Claim Jumper once.  It was such a long time ago.  I don't remember what I ordered, nor if I like the food or not.  All I remember was the portion was huge.  One day as we passed the restaurant, Dr. P mentioned that he loves Claim Jumper.  When I collected enough points on MyPoints.com for a $25 gift card from Claim Jumper.

Buffalo Chicken Wings ($6.95)
Half dozen drummettes tossed in our signature spicy sauce and served with celery, carrots and ranch for dipping

When we were walking up to the door, we saw EVERY table by the window had a plate of Buffalo Chicken Wings on it.  It must be their most popular appetizer.  So we followed and ordered one as well.  The wings tasted like it was baked rather than fried.  It was meaty, juicy, and moist.  I like this style of wings much much better than the fried and dried kind.  Very good Buffalo Chicken Wings.

Citrus Chicken Salad ($13.50)
Choice of char-grilled or Jamaican jerk chicken with mandarin oranges, green apples, avocado, golden raisins, dried cranberries, glazed pecans, bleu cheese crumbles and green onions. Tossed with our signature citrus vinaigrette
dressing

We ordered one salad and one entree to share.  We were deciding between BBQ chicken salad, cobb salad, or citrus chicken salad.  Out of those three, we thought citrus chicken salad would be the healthiest choice.  We also asked our waitress for her suggestion, and she said citrus chicken salad is her favorite out of these 3 salad.  We picked Jamaican jerk chicken over char-grilled chicken.  I don't think I like the jerk chicken that much.  It had a strange taste.  Maybe I'm just not used to the Jamaican rub.  Next time I'll just stick with the regular grilled chicken.  Other than the chicken, I love everything in this salad.  Lots of fruit, apple, orange, raisins, cranberries.  It also had my favorite ingredients in salad, avocado.  The citrus vinaigrette tasted slightly sweet, but not too much.  It also came with two pieces of tasty garlic toast.  This was a very tasty salad.  Also it felt healthy..... but then......

There was this little booklet on the table.  We flipped through the pages and found nutritional information of Claim Jumper's food.  Looking at the salad section, we found our Citrus Chicken Salad.  WHAT?  This plate of salad has 1,680 calories?  Are you serious?  Adding 269 calories form the garlic cheesy toast, this salad came to 1,949 calories!!!!  Yes, the portion is big, but all the other salad should have the same portion.  BBQ Chicken Salad only has 555 calories.  If I saw this before we ordered, I'll definitely go with BBQ Chicken Salad.  I just wonder where did the high calories come from?  After seeing this info, I only ate very little of this "so-I-thought-it-was-healthy" salad.

BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs ($22.95)
Our original tender ribs basted with our signature, smoky mesquite BBQ sauce then flame-broiled

I just couldn't resist BBQ Baby Back Pork Ribs when I saw it on the menu (and other people's table, too).  Half rack is $19.95, and full rack is only $3 more.  The ribs were super meaty and juicy.  Their BBQ sauce on the side tasted tangy and slightly spicy.  We loved it.  The grilled vegetables was tasty.  It came with a choice of bread or muffin and one side.  We didn't know the salad also came with garlic cheesy bread and ordered the same for the entree.  The toast was very good.  I had to force myself not to eat too much of it.  Their food portion was huge, even their baked potato was huge.  We only managed to finished half plate at the restaurant.

So much calories does that plate have?  A whooping 4,275 calories!  Plus the 300 calories from toast, and 400 calories from the potato, not even counting the vegetable, that was almost 5,000 calories!  Salad was about 2,000 calories, and I don't even know how many calories the buffalo wings had... let's say 500?  Then that was a 7,500 calories dinner for 2.  OOOOMMMMGGGG!  No dessert for me after I found out how much calories I consumed that night.

Service was very friendly.  Food was good with huge portion.  Their price is just about the same as other American restaurant, but the portion size is almost double the amount.  This place is definitely great for the value.  But if you are on a diet, do not come here!  Otherwise, this place is perfect for people who likes to eat a lot!

  1. I have been reading your blog for a long time, just never write anything here.
Citrus salad are much higher in calories compared to other salads due to it is loaded with higher calorie ingredients: avocado (~300kcals/one), pecans(50+kcals/5 pecan, not counting the glaze), dry fruits(60kcals/2 tablespoons) and the cheese crumble. I am so glad to see CA's chain restaurants letting customer aware what we are eating. :(

But those are somewhat "good" calories, right?
(still trying to convince myself that's a high calorie "healthy" salad....)

  3. The baked buffalo wings are actually very easy to make at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com. Just need flour, a jar of buffalo sauce and chicken wings. Since you cook as well, you should try making it.

That sounds pretty easy. I'll definitely try at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com soon!

  5. When you dine out, it is better not to look at nutritional information. Once you know how fatty the food is, you could not eat as much you want.
The food with higher calorie usually tastes better.
Have you ever read a series of books ”eat this, not that”
(see http://eatthis.menshealth.com/http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com)? My coworker loved those books and recommended them to everyone.

I have the book! I also would recommend it to everyone!
