We didn't get to go out for our Wednesday date night because Dr. P had to work late.  But he made it up to me by taking me out last night.  We went to Lulu's Creperie Cafe for the $20 OC Restaurant Week dinner special.

Lulu's is not a big place.  Just a few tables inside, and they have a cute outdoor patio area.

We were seated at the patio.  It was actually quite warm because of the heat lamps.  They had a lady singing Jazz inside right by the door.  I love her voice.

The dinner special includes 4 courses for $20.  Also a glass of wine or champagne is only $4.95.

Bread

Our waitress brought us some bread to start the meal.  The restaurant was busy when we arrived.  Service wasn't bad.  But the waitresses at Lulu's don't smile.

House Merlot ($4.95)

Dr. P couldn't drink because he was taking antibiotic for a big cut on his feet that he got from surfing.  But he ordered me a glass of Merlot.  It tasted warm and smooth.

Smoked Salmon Appetizer ($7.95)

It took a while for our food to arrive, but it was understandable since the restaurant was busy.  Dr. P ordered Smoked Salmon Appetizer.  The combination of smoked salmon, tomato, caper, and red onion was great.  Dr. P liked it a lot.  I will try to make this easy appetizer for him at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com next time.

Pate & Crudite ($4.95)

For some reason, I thought the Pate would be the soft kind that you can spread on bread, but I was wrong.  The pate had a peppercorn crust, and tasted sort of like smoked ham.  It was alright.  I liked the salmon appetizer better though.

Lobster Bisque

Dr. P got Lobster Bisque for his second course.  The soup was creamy.  It was pretty good, but no lobster meat though.

Organic Mixed Green Citrus Salad

I don't know why, but I totally thought it was Organic Mixed Green "Strawberry" Salad instead of citrus salad.  I thought the dressing tasted like strawberry, and even thought the tomato was strawberry.  When Dr. P tried the salad, he was like "no... this is orange, and this is tomato".  Must be the Merlot!  Yup, just blame everything on the alcohol.

Ossu Bucco on Pasta ($21.95)
Veal Shank simmered in a basil & tomato sauce served on a bed of linguini

Dr. P ordered Ossu Bucco on Pasta.  The veal shank looked big, but it was mostly bone though.  The meat part was tender.  I like the part near the bone the most because it had a lot of tendon.  The basil and tomato sauce was delicious.  We both liked this dish a lot.  Original price on the menu is $21.95.  And Restaurant Week special is only $20 plus 3 more courses?  Great deal!

Poached Salmon Lemon Dill ($16.95)
Poached Salmon topped with a fresh lemon & dill sauce

I ordered duck, but they ran out of the duck so I changed it to Poached Salmon.  It was a really big piece of salmon.  The lemon dill sauce tasted like hollandaise sauce.  It was creamy and very rich.  I thought it tasted great at first, but then it got a bit too heavy so I just ate the salmon without the sauce.

Cafe Americano ($1.95)

We were really looking forward to dessert.  Since this place is called "creperie" cafe, crepe must be their specialty.  Dr. P ordered a cup of coffee to go with our dessert crepes.

Britanny Crepe Suzette ($6.95)
Golden crêpes in a buttery orange sauce flambé with Grand Marnier

On the dessert menu, there were creme brulee, cheesecake, and petit fours.  But we decided to order the two dessert crepes.  Britanny Crepe Suzette was served with an orange sauce.  We didn't like this one.  The sauce tasted too sour.  Also I didn't like how the crepe was drenched in the sauce and it was all soggy.  Now I know not to order the saucy kind of crepe.... not my favorite.

Strawberry Nutella Crepe ($6.95)

We both said the same thing, "We should've ordered 2 Strawberry Nutella Crepe".  The Strawberry Nutella crepe was super yummy!

I don't know why every time I eat chocolate dessert I always get it all over my face.  One time I was working on this TV show, and one of our actress treated the crew with chocolate fountain.  They were shooting a scene when the chocolate fountain arrived.  I wasn't working on that scene, so I just stood by the fountain, ate, ate, and ate.  Finally I heard the director said the scene was done.  I ran to the set all excited because I wanted to tell my fellow co-workers that the chocolate fountain was here.  I ran in and told everyone "Chocolate fountain is here!"  Then everybody started laughing, and said.... "yeah we know.... just by looking at your face."  I had chocolate on my cheek, on my chin, on my teeth, all over my lips.  How did that happen?  I had no idea.  haha....

So the waitress didn't put the wine and coffee on the bill.  This has been happening to us for a few times now.  We always tip the waitress more when that happens.  Now I am start to wonder if waitresses do that on purpose for more tips?

This is a really cute crepe cafe.  I want to come back to try their brunch menu and maybe get a savory crepe.  Still a few days left for OC Restaurant Week.  Enjoy!

I like going out on weekday.
It's not as crazy as the weekend. ^^

  3. yeah, the waitresses definitely do it on purpose. i went to buca di beppo with a group of friends for a special event, and since we're all poor college students, the waitress told us straight out that she'd cover the cost of our drinks if we ordered dessert and "treated" her. i wonder if the restaurants know what the waitresses are doing.

The owner(s) will never know if they don't put drinks on the bill, right?
In that way, they always make more on tips. We usually just add the cost of the drink(s) to the normal tips.
So for that night at Lulu's, our waitress made extra $7 on tips from the drinks.
Hmmm.... Now I really think about it, it's not right to do that.

  4. huh i got a question! how can you dine out that often and still wear size S dress? I would gain so much weight if i eat food from outside.

I am not size S anymore.... So sad.
I found out wedding dress sizes are different than normal dress sizes.
They make the dress bigger and name the size smaller to make brides happy I guess.

  5. Hi Eileen!
I have been your follower for quite some time now -- like you, I am a recent graduate of AHS :) I really enjoy your blogs so keep them coming!! I know that you've worked as an extra on movie sets quite a few times, and I have been contacted a few times by companies... but I never looked into them because I was scared that they are scams. I just really want to ask you for your opinion if possible, maybe via email?
    Thanks!

    Michelle :)

  6. That is not pate. I swear that is a terrine (I love terrines but only ever see them in French restaurants).

I knew it! That wasn't pate.
