[Hacienda Heights] [Buffet] 西海岸海鮮自助餐 West Coast Seafood Buffet

West Coast Seafood Buffet

My parents heard a program on the Chinese radio station promoting this new buffet called Wes Coast in Hacienda Heights.  They tried it, and thought it was a really good value.  For $10 lunch, you can get all you can eat sushi, sashimi, Mongolian BBQ, and cooked Chinese food.  For $1 more, you can also get unlimited hot pot.  So my parents took me there to try their buffet lunch.

Lunch Buffet ($9.99/person)

This buffet is huge!  Their selection of food is a bit more than your typical Asian buffet.  I like their sushi a lot.  Dad loaded up on sashimi.  My mom doesn't eat raw fish, and she still had plenty of sushi choices.  The cooked food was pretty tasty, but oily.

Hot and Sour Soup

There were 4 soup choices I think.  I got hot and sour soup.  I like it how they added a lot of enoki mushroom in the soup.

Hot Pot ($1.00/person)

We added hot pot for $1 per person.  The soup base had gogi berry and date in it.  The spicy side was bad, actually quite disgusting.  It wasn't spicy at all, just salty, and had a really strange taste to it.  But the non-spicy side was very tasty.  The item choices included your regular fixing of meat and veggies, and there were also shrimp, and even crab.  I was really excited to see that there were also intestines.  Unfortunately, the intestine wasn't cleaned well, and it had that really gross taste to it.  The meat quality wasn't too good.  It was frozen, and they turned really dry even when we only cooked it slightly in the broth.  So we just ate seafood and vegetable, then drank the yummy broth.

Fruit

We didn't like their fruit that day.  The orange was sour, and the water melon was soft and mushy.

Dessert Soup

I like this white ear mushroom dessert soup.  My grandma used to make it for us when we were little.  Even though my grandma's version tasted much better, this still brought back a sweet memory.

If you are looking for good value, going to West Coast for the $10 lunch buffet would totally serve the purpose.  But if you are looking for good quality, I wouldn't recommend coming here.  As for me, I think I prefer a regular Chinese / hot pot / or sushi restaurant next time.

  1. I agree with you, Eileen - this place is definitely more quantity, rather than quality. I went there a few times when it first opened, but haven't been back since. I know a lot of people that actually got food poisoning from there, so I haven't been tempted to go back.

My parents still like the place. But I don't think I wanna go back again.
