I had a test on Tuesday morning and got out of class early.  So I took my parents to Green Island Restaurant for lunch.

I found the restaurant on Yelp, and thought their stone pot dishes look really good.

The inside of the restaurant looks pretty fancy.  My parents said they like the high ceiling.

熱法式咖啡 Hot French Coffee ($1.00)

Drinks are only $1 if ordered with an entree.  My dad ordered Hot French Coffee.

凍法式咖啡 Cold French Coffee ($1.00)

I got Cold French Coffee.  It tasted like the Cantonese kind of coffee with sweet condense milk.  It was great.  They offered me a free refill right before we were leaving so I took a full cup to go.  That was really nice.

石燒家鄉豆腐 Pan Fried Tofu with Black Pork Belly ($4.99)

The restaurant has one discounted dish on a each day of the week.  We went on a Tuesday, and the discounted dish was Pan Fried Tofu with Black Pork Belly with normal price of $7.99.  The dish was light and tasty.  We all liked it.

綠島咖喱雞 House Curry Chicken ($6.99)

House Curry Chicken was our favorite dish of the meal.  The chicken was tender.  The curry sauce had some sweet coconut milk in it.  There were also potatoes in there.  This dish was really delicious.

鐵板鰻魚炒飯 Sizzeling Eel Fried Rice ($7.49)

Sizzeling Eel Fried Rice was a little fishy.  Dad really disliked the fishy taste of the eel and asked our waitress about it.  The waitress ensured us that the eel was fresh.  She also said this is one of their most popular dishes, and nobody ever complained about the taste of the eel.  Hmmm....  Well, we probably won't order this again.

魚鬆家鄉炒米粉 Pan Fried Vermicelli with Fish Cake ($5.99)

Pan Fried Vermicelli with Fish Cake was pretty good.  But I wish they had more fish cake in there.  Even though it was good, my mom's vermicelli was the best!  So whenever I eat vermicelli in the restaurants, I always thought it wasn't as good as my mom's version.

We all like Green Island Restaurant, and plan to return in the near future to try more of their dishes.

  2. Love Green Island! It is one of my favorite restaurants. I wrote about this place many times and you ended up ordering items that I enjoy a lot :). However I am quite intrigued by the fact they used the same pot for the black pork belly tofu as the fried rice. The tofu for us (and in their photos) comes in their fat stone pots and not their cast iron pans.

Yeah, the vermicelli does look like there is very little fishcake. Usually comes with much more fishcake and the fishcake is browned more for more yummy flavor.

You are tempting me to order the curry chicken again after my last accident with it with the chicken tasting too tender to the point of it felt like I was eating the processed chicken nuggets! You certainly got a lot of chicken in the dish!

I saw the tofu at the table next to us in the pot you mentioned.
Maybe they ran out of the pot?

  3. Eileen,
Guess so! Or they wanted to be nice to you and give you something different than what other customers got.

    haha maybe.
