I signed up to a fan on Pei Wei Asian Diner's Facebook page.  They sent me a coupon for a free bowl of the new Japanese Chile Beef Ramen for being a fan.  And today they are having a Ramen Exchange special.  If you bring in a bag of store bought ramen, you can order the Japanese Chile Beef Ramen at 50% off.  Dr. P and I took advantage of the one day special and went there for lunch.

Pei Wei in Tustin is located in The District.  This must be the busiest restaurant in this plaza.  The restaurant was completely full, with a super long line almost out the door.  But the line moved fairly quick.  And while we were waiting in line, they had workers finding seats for the guests.  They asked how many people are in your party, and they go find a table, place a number stand on the table, come back and tell you your table number.  We thought that was really nice.

We placed our order at the counter.  I handed in my free ramen coupon and a bag of Korean kimchi ramen, which resulted in $10.43 discount.  Good deal!

Minced Chicken with Cool Lettuce Wraps ($6.75)
Shiitake mushroom, water chestnut, scallion, spicy soy, iceberg lettuce

We ordered Minced Chicken with Cool Lettuce Wraps for appetizer.  The minced chicken was tasty.  I think they used hoisin sauce.  I like the texture of ground chicken, soft mushroom, and crunchy water chestnut mixing together.  Under the lettuce wraps, there was a spicy soy sauce.  It tasted just like soy sauce, and I would suggest not to add it to the lettuce wraps.  This appetizer was pretty good.

Japanese Chile Beef Ramen ($6.95)

Everything was made to order, so we had to wait for a little bit for the food to arrive at the table.  When the server brought the Japanese Chile Beef Ramen to the table, the smell of lime and cilantro made me really hungry.  You can't really see the beef in the pictures, but there are a lot of meat under the noodle.  Honestly, I didn't taste anything Japanese in this bowl of noodle.  It was more like a Chinese and Thai style noodle.  It was a little spicy, but not too noticeable.  We both like the flavor a lot, but I don't think they should call this Japanese nor ramen.

I like Pei Wei much better than Panda Express.  I am very interested in the Dan Dan Noodle.  Dr. P wanted to come back again to try their rice dish.  We will be back again soon. If you would like to try the 50% off Japanese Chile Beef Ramen, remember to bring a bag of ramen to Pei Wei today for the special. Enjoy!

  3. I'm not too keen on this place... Been to the one in Pasadena a few times, everything tastes like faux Asian food made with pre-packaged sauces.

    It's definitely Americanize Chinese.
But I like how they make the food after you order, and it tastes better than Panda Express.
