(CLOSED)

Dr. P is loving the schedule flexibility of his job.  I like it, too.  He can go surfing in the morning, and I get to have lunch with him before he goes to work.  I was in the mood for some Chinese food.  We found Royal Kitchen Seafood Restaurant from this coupon book we received in our mail.  The coupon was for $5 off when ordering over $25.

The restaurant is located in the shopping plaza at the corner of Culver and Walnut.  This is a huge shopping center.  We found Royal Kitchen, and thought it looked really small from outside.

It's not that big inside, either.  It was about 12:30pm, and the place was pretty empty.  We thought that wasn't a good sign.  But later they did get a few more customers, mostly non-Asian though.  During lunch hour, they serve both dim sum and lunch special.  After looking through the menu, we decided to order lunch special with a few dim sum dishes.

蟹皇燒賣 Pork Dumpling Siu Mai ($2.25)

Since the restaurant was small, they only had one dim sum cart going around.  Pork Dumpling Siu Mai is my must-get item when I have dim sum.  The siu mai here were plump and big.  The meat was juicy.

豉汁排骨 Sparerib w/ Black Bean Sauce ($2.25)

Sparerib w/ Black Bean Sauce tasted a little bland, but the sparerib had lots of meat and very little bones.

鮮蝦韭菜餃 Shrimp w/ Green Leek Dumpling ($3.30)

When I saw this dish at the dim sum cart, I thought it was scallop with cilantro dumpling.  I was wrong.  It wasn't scallop, but shrimp.  It wasn't cilantro, but leek.  It was pretty good though.

酸辣湯 Sour & Spicy Soup

Our lunch special came with free soup and rice.  The soup of the day was Dr. P's favorite Sour & Spicy Soup.  The soup tasted great.  Lots of bamboo shoot and black ear mushroom in the soup.  Yum!

法式牛 French Style Beef ($6.25)

The dish I picked was French Style Beef.  Cubes of super tender beef cooked with a garlic pepper sauce, served on top of raw onion slices.  Delicious!

麻婆豆腐 Bean Curd Szechuan Style ($6.25)

Dr. P picked Bean Curd Szechuan Style.  The sauce was great.  Very good with rice.

星洲炒米 Fried Rice Noodle Singapore Style ($6.95)

The lunch special was pretty cheap, so we still needed to order more to make $25.  We picked Fried Rice Noodle Singapore Style.  Dr. P had never tried it before.  I told him it's a little spicy with curry flavor and he liked how that sounded.  The dish must look good and smell good because after the waiter brought the dish to our table, the ladies at the next table asked the waiter what did we order.  The noodle tasted pretty good, with lots of shredded pork, some shrimp, and fried egg.

The food at Royal Kitchen was pretty good.  The dim sum was a little pricey.  I think next time we'll just order lunch special and fried rice/noodle.  Service was great.  Our waiter was an older gentleman.  Very polite and very friendly.  We also had a lot of leftover to take http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.  Dr. P was happy that he got to pack a big bento box to bring to work.  We both like the restaurant, and plan to return again in the near future.
