[San Mateo] [American] Nini's Coffee Shop

Nini's Coffee Shop
1000 N Idaho St
San Mateo, CA 94401
(650) 348-9578

Dad, mom, and I woke up early today.  Everyone else wanted to sleep in.  So the three of us went to get breakfast.  I found Nini's Coffee Shop on Yelp.  This small breakfast/lunch eatery has been around since 1955!

The freeway is so confusing in San Mateo, so are the streets.  Everything keeps on going around and around and around.  I followed my GPS and ended up in a residential neighborhood.  I thought I went the wrong way, but then I saw a lot of people waiting in front of this corner house.  There's Nini's Coffee Shop!

There were a lot of families waiting for tables.  Luckily they had a 3 persons table available so we got seated right away.  Lot's of counter seats open, but I guess most people prefer to sit at a table?  They also has a nice little outdoor patio area.

Menu on the wall, but I could hardly read the writing.  They should make the writing bigger.

Dad and I ordered coffee, and mom got a glass of milk.  My mom took a sip.  She frowned and said the milk tasted funny.  My dad took a sip.  He also frowned and said the same thing.  Immediately the waiter came over and asked if there's something wrong.  We told him about the sour milk.  He took the glass back.  We saw him opening a new container of milk, poured a little bit out into a paper cup, tried it himself, then poured my mom a new glass.  We still don't know if the milk has passed its expiration date or what.  Mom wasn't happy though.

Bacon & Eggs ($7.95)

Dad ordered Bacon & Eggs.  He liked the bacon a  lot.  He said it was crispy and not oily at all.

Vegetarian Omelette "Original"  ($9.45)
Nini's cooks the egetables, we don't throw them in raw - zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, tomatoes, Jack & Swiss cheese, sour cream & chives

Mom ordered Vegetarian Omelette "Original".  The omelette was huge.  How many eggs were in it?  6?  There were lots of veggies insie the omelette:  zucchini, mushrooms, tomatoes, and lots and lots of carrots.

Greek Omelette ($9.45)
Lamb, feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, spices, sour cream, chives

I ordered Gree, Omelette with lamb, feta cheese, olives, and tomatoes.  I cut a piece for mom, and another piece for dad.  I like it, so did mom and dad.

The lamb was flat piece of meat.  It tasted sort of like sausage, but better.  Love the feta cheese.  We all like their side potatoes a whole lot, too.  I brought half of it back to the hotel for Dr. P.  He said it was a great omelette.

Food was definitely hearty here.  My dad thought the service was really good.  He dropped the cap from the ketchup bottle.  A waitress rushed over to pick it up.  She didn't give the cap back right away.  She went to rinse the cap with water first before handing it back to my dad.  They always refilled our coffee before we had to ask.  My dad said he would definitely return again if he lives around the area.
