I bought a wine tasting at Hamilton Oaks Vineyard for 2 for only $10 from Groupon. We went and enjoyed some wine on a sunny afternoon.

I didn't even know there is a winery in South Orange County. This is a very small winery. Actually this is the owner's house. He operates his business from home. The house was divided to two sides. One side is where he and his family lives, the other side has a wine bar with patio seating area for wine tasting.

They grows some grapes right in their "backyard".

This is the residential side where the family lives.

They keep a very nice garden.

The small wine bar is on the second floor.

It's quite impressive how much awards they've won for being such a small winery.

Those were the wines they were offering the day we went. Our tasting included 6 wines.

Chardonnay

The tasting also came with a bowl of crackers. The first wine we tried was Chardonnay. In general, I alway enjoy white wine more than red for some reason. I like this one a lot, and ended up taking a bottle home.

Those were the first two wines we sampled.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Then the rest were all red wines. Maybe it was a waste for me to go to wine tasting because all the red wines kinda taste the same to me. But unlike me, Dr. P is really into wine, and he talked about the different "notes", the flavor, the taste, and some other description I don't even remember.

But I enjoyed sitting outside sipping my wine on a Saturday afternoon. I also enjoyed looking around the old school decorations around the winery. Is this an old fireplace?

Zinfandel

More red wine....

Looking up from our seats, this was the view.

JV Cabernet

Yet more red wine....

Little olive tree.

JV Cab Chuck Hill

One more cabernet. This was the most expensive one on the menu, $15/glass. Dr. P really liked this one. I thought it tasted good.... just like all the other reds I've had. Dr. P was tempted to buy a bottle, but I told him buying expensive wine for me is a waste. haha....

The owner's little dog came out to play with us. She's so cute! We should've taken Teddy and Twinkle there with us.

Port

Last but not least, we each got a glass of port wine.  Sweet, but very strong.

This was a really good wine tasting deal for $5/person.  I would love to go back to Hamilton Oaks for another dizzy lazy afternoon.  ;-)

  1. Wow, I never knew about this place either...much closer than driving out to Temecula for wine tasting. Funny how your bowl of crackers gets lower and lower in each photo...then is all filled up again for the JC Cab Chuck Hill...so they gave you a free refill or is that picture out of order? ;-)

hahahaha Funny how you notice the crackers.
Yeah we got a free refill of the crackers.
