I'm back!  After the semester ended, Dr. P and I took a trip to San Diego.  I felt so lazy after we returned from the trip, so I gave myself an extra week of vacation.  This week summer school has started.  Now I am back to work/study mode.  Time to write my blog again!  But before I start writing about San Diego, I have to finish writing about the days before our trip.... Uhhhh I'm so behind!

It was the last day of my final.  How do I celebrate after a hard week of studying?  Eat, of course!  My school friend Ema was super sweet and gave me a coupon from Elephant Bar.  So I took mom and sister to have lunch there to celebrate the end of my 2nd semester.

It was also the first time I used my new camera in a restaurant.  I LOVE my new camera.  The picture was so clear!  The 3 of us ordered 2 three course meals from the coupon + 1 extra entree to share.

Garden Side Salad
Iceberg, romaine & green leaf lettuces with carrots, red cabbage, tomato and herb toasted croutons.  Served with your choice of dressing.

For the first course of the three course meal, we got to choose between Garden Side Salad or Caesar Side Salad.  We got one of each.  Even though it was just a "side" salad, portion was pretty big.  It was a standard garden salad with lettuce, carrot, tomato and croutons.

Caesar Side Salad
Romaine leaves served with Caesar dressing and herb toasted croutons.  Topped with Parmesan cheese.

I like the Caesar Side Salad better than the Garden Salad.  When I ordered the Caesar Salad, our waiter asked, "what dressing would you like to have?"  I was like, "huh?  Doesn't caesar salad just come with caesar dressing?"  His answer was "Yes, but some people like to change the dressing."  Seriously?  Well, I was glad I didn't change the dressing, because I love their caesar dressing.

Shrimp Adventure Platter 3 Course Meal ($13.75)
A combination of large coconut fried shrimp, fire grilled teriyaki glazd shrimp and hand-breaded fried shrimp--15 in all!  Served with luau vegetables, French fries, sweet and spicy Pan Pacific and Oriental dipping sauces.

Ema highly recommended the Shrimp Adventure Platter, so we had to order it!  The platter included coconut fried shrimp, grilled teriyaki shrimp, and hand-breaded fried shrimp.  Our favorite one was the coconut shrimp.  It was super good.  The other two types of shrimp were also very good.  Mom loved the sauteed vegetables, too.  This platter was such a good value.

Crispy Teriyaki Chicken 3 Course Meal ($10.75)
Wok-fired teriyaki glazed chicken over vegetables--tossed in a mushroom soy-ginger-garlic sauce.  Finished with green onions and toasted sesame seeds.  Served with steamed white or brown rice.

Crispy Teriyaki Chicken was another dish offered from the coupon.  The sauce looked really dark, which made this dish seemed salty.  But actually it wasn't.  The chicken was tender.  The sauce was sweet.  This tasted kinda like Panda Express type of food, but still pretty good.

Brown Rice

The chicken came with white or brown rice.  We picked brown rice, and there was no additional charge for brown rice like most restaurants do.

Summer BBQ Platter ($14.95)

Summer BBQ Platter was from their special summer menu.  It came with BBQ ribs, grilled shrimp, BBQ chicken (hiding under the corn in the picture), Cole slaw, corn, beans, rice, and watermelon.  So much food!  I love everything on this platter, especially the BBQ ribs.

Wonton Sundae
Crisp wonton cup dusted with sugar and cinnamon.  Served with vanilla ice cream and chocolate and caramel fudge.  Topped with whipped cream, Oreo cookie chunks, roasted peanuts and a maraschino cherry.

We got 2 desserts for the three course meal.  The first one was Wonton Sundae.  3 scoops of vanilla ice cream inside crispy wonton skin.  Vanilla ice cream was rich and yummy.  Wonton skin was a bit oily, but still good.

Mini Walnut Fudge Brownie
Served warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, Oreo cookie chunks, peanuts and a maraschino cherry.

I like the Mini Walnut Fudge Brownie better.  It also had vanilla ice cream.  Instead of fried wonton skin, you get a warm piece of brownie with this one.  I really like the hot+cold combo kind of dessert.  The brownie wasn't overly sweet.  I could taste the bitter chocolate, which I like a lot.  Yum!

We were stuffed, and took http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com 3 big boxes of leftover.  Thank you Ema for the coupon!  It was a really good value for the quality and the amount of food we got.  I like Elephant Bar.  Will definitely be back again!

  1. I like elephant bar. My kids like the deco in the waiting. But one time I ate there, there was a life, yes LIFE caterpillar on my veggie. I didn't even notice because the lighting was pretty dim, my son actually pointed it out to me.

OMG! That just sounds so gross!
    What did the waiter do?
