I read about Jeonju Restaurant on Potatomato's blog.  We always go to that plaza for soontofu but never knew about Jeonju's famous bimbi bap.  The photos on Potatomato's blog look so good.  We had to try the restaurant.

Only Korean writings on the outside.  I would never know about this restaurant if I didn't read about it.  Thanks, Potatomato!  ^^

Jeonju also have lots of typical Korean dishes.  But they are known for their Bibim Bap.  They only serve three kinds, kalbi, seafood, and kimchi kalbi.

The restaurant was small, only about 10 tables.  They only have one waitress serving the restaurant.  Even though the restaurant was half empty, service was a bit slow.  We waited for 15 minutes for the banchan.

Banchan

6 different banchan was brought to the table.  I really like their kimchi.  Everything else was pretty good, too.

Soup

We also got seaweed soup and kimchi in cold soup.  I don't really know the proper way to eat this kimchi.  Are you supposed to drink it like a soup?  Or only eat the kimchi only?

We ordered two different kinds of bimbi bap to share.  The seafood one had squid, mussel and imitation crab.  There were a lot vegetables, also egg and seaweed.  We added the spicy sauce to it to mix everything together with rice.  We thought the seafood one was just alright.  We did got a lot of squid, but it didn't taste anything special.  I had the leftover for dinner.  Somehow it had a really strong "fishy" smell and it just wasn't good later.

We were deciding between the regular kalbi or the kimchi and kalbi bibim bap.  We were both in the mood for spicy food, so opted for the kimchi and kalbi one.  This bimbi bap didn't have any vegetable, just kalbi and kimchi.  No sauce needed for this one because the kimchi already had lots of flavor.

We love this one.  The kimchi was cooked and it just tasted so good.  Kalbi was cut into small pieces.  Very tender and flavorful.  I also tasted butter.

We didn't like the seafood bimbi bap that much, but will definately come back again for the kimchi and kalbi bimbi bap.  Yum!

  2. Hi Eileen, have you tried Ondal on Washington Blvd? They are known for the crab soup, just tried it with friend last night. But I think it is necessary to have 4+ ppl to try, because the smallest size is a MEDIUM and that feeds 4 ppl. Pretty cool and delicious experience :)

    每次一上來都覺得好少,可是每次都吃不完。
    我好想買個石鍋自己在家吃呢~~
