I told Dr. Park about the famous Hainan Chicken Rice at Savoy every time we pass by the tiny restaurant.  There are always people waiting on the sidewalk.  After hearing me talking about how great the Haiana Chicken Rice is at Savoy, Dr. Park suggested to try it on a Saturday night.  The wait was not as long as we expected.  15 minutes, got a table inside.

We started the meal with a cup of iced cappuccino.  I've always liked Savoy's cappuccino.  Perfect blend of sweet and bitter.

Baked Esgargot w/ Herb Butter @ Savoy Kitchen by you.

Esgargot for appetizer.  I thought it's supposed to be spelled as "escargot"?  But it was "esgargot" on their menu.  Oh well.  There were 6 esgargot baked with garlic and herb butter.  It was good, but Dr. Park got one with cracked shell and he said it tasted weird.

They also gave us bread to dip in the esgargot butter.

This is the dish everyone gets at Savoy, Hainan Chicken Rice.  The chicken was tender and juicy.  Rice was cooked with chicken fat.  There were three sauces, the sweet soy sauce, ginger sauce and spicy sauce.  I have a particular way of using the sauce.  I like to mix my rice with the sweet soy sauce, then dip the chicken in spicy sauce (lots of it) then smear it all over the rice, then eat.  I don't like ginger much so I don't like that ginger sauce.  But Dr. Park is loving everything on the plate.  He likes it so much that he even order an extra one to take http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com.

We also ordered a Curry Beef Stew to share.  The flavor of the curry was really good.  It was more of a Portuguese style curry.  The beef could be a bit more tender, but still pretty good.  Well, we still like the Hainan Rice Chicken better though.

I have been going to Savoy for I don't know.... 15 years?  The flavor hasn't changed at all.  Still just simple and delicious.  If you want to try Hainan Chicken Rice, Savoy is definately the place to get it.

  1. Every time I pass by Savoy there's always a bunch of people waiting outside so I've not been there for years.. Maybe should give it another chance sometimes...

  3. Really love your website, great info for a empty stomach. I think Savoy's Hainan Chicken is alright, but I like Cafe Spot's Hainan Chicken a lot! You might wanna try it.
