A while back I signed up for some kind of free giveaway on Outback Steakhouse website, then just forgot about it. Then I received a nice surprise in the mail.
I got a free steak dinner coupon from the restaurant. The offer was good for one 6 oz Outback Special Sirloin and a choice of one side. Since it was valid only Monday through Thursday, we were there on a weeknight. To our surprise, the restaurant was completely packed. Do people in South Orange County eat out everyday?
Bread
Believe it or not, it was my first time at Outback. I like their bread a lot. It tasted kinda like the bread from Cheesecake Factory. It was warm and sweet.
Classic Blue Cheese Wedge Salad ($4.49)
We added a Classic Blue Cheese Wedge Salad to one of the entree. The dressing was slightly sweet, which was perfect with the savory and pungent blue cheese.
Outback 6 oz Special Sirloin ($8.99)
With Baked Potato
The coupon was valued at $8.99 for the dinner. Our waitress said that I could upgrade the meal to anything I like, and they would just subtract $8.99 from the bill. They didn't even offer 6 oz Sirloin on their menu. The smallest one was 7 oz Sirloin for $13.99. I don't think I want to add $5 just for one extra oz, and stuck with the free offer.
I chose wood-fire steak. It had that woody, smoky BBQ flavor. It was cooked to medium just as I asked, but the lean and healthy Sirloin didn't taste as tender as other pricier cuts of meat.
Filet & Grilled Shrimp on the Barbie ($15.99)
Wood-fire grilled petite filet paried with seasoned and grilled shrimp. Served with a dressed baked potato
Dr. P ordered Filet and Grilled Shrimp combo. This filet tasted way better than the Sirloin. It was very soft and tender. Dr. P ordered his steak Classic style, and we loved the lemon pepper seasoning on the steak. The BBQ shrimp was tasty with those juicy grilled cherry tomatoes. But where was the baked potato that was supposed to come with the meal?
Baked Potato
We asked our waitress for the baked potato, and she said she thought we wanted to substitute it with the wedge salad. But we asked to added the salad as a side to the meal. She apologized and brought Dr. P a Baked Potato right away. The baked potato was really good. Even though I was full, I still finished a whole one. Our waitress ended up not charging us for the side salad because she said it was her mistake. It was nice of her so we just added the cost of the salad to her tips.
Thank you, Outback, for the free steak dinner. We enjoyed the food a lot. It was my first time there, and definitely will not be my last time.

She didn't charge us salad because she said it was her mistake

I thought it was for the Inka Mama place you reviewed before, but it's for a place called Inka Grill in Costa Mesa.
