My friend Juey and Geddy came to visit from Taiwan! I haven't seen them for about 10 years. I was so excited to see them. We had so much to catch up on. I wanted to find a restaurant with good food, and where we can sit to talk all night long. I thought about my favorite K'ya Bistro, but unfortunately they were fully booked that night. Then I tried their sister restaurant, House of Big Fish and Cold Beer, and was able to make reservation for the 3 of us that night.

Bucket of Beer - Pacifico ($18.00)

We got to Laguna Beach a bit earlier than our reservation so we could walk around the beach a bit. When we finally sat down at the restaurant, we were ready for some cold beer. I ordered a "bucket" of Pacifico for us. It was their first time trying Pacifico since it wasn't available in Taiwan. They said it tasted similar to Corona but better. They liked it so much that they even talked about imported it into Taiwan and served it at their live houses. (They owned two live houses in Taiwan called Riverside. If you are visiting Taiwan, be sure to check out the venues. They always have great concerts and live shows there.)

Chilled Oysters ½ dzn. ($11.95)
With horseradish cocktail sauce

Gotta have some Oysters! It was really fresh and yummy.

Juey had never had raw oyster before. Geddy had tried to convinced her for years, but she never wanted to try. I didn't know if it was my persuasion, or the alcohol she consumed, she actually said yes this time. She tried it, and said it didn't have that fishy taste that she was scared of at all. In fact, she liked it so much that she even grabbed the second one. Success!

Hawaiian Style Ahi Pokes (Full Scoop) ($10.95)
Served with wonton chips and onion, seaweed, spicy soy

We wanted some munchies to go with the beer before the food arrived. I ordered Hawaiian Style Ahi Pokes to do the job. It tasted exactly the same as the one they have at K'ya Bistro. Geddy liked the poki, and Juey liked the wonton chips.

1lb Guava BBQ Pork Ribs ($15.95)

Wait... what happened to the picture? No, I wasn't tipsy from 3 glasses of beer. It must be the camera's fault. Bad camera! I had the Guava BBQ Pork Ribs during their happy hour. The dinner portion was about twice as much with more side dishes. The meat was fell of the bone tender. The guava BBQ sauce was finger licking good. Loved it!

Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi ($16.95)
Guava butter sauce

According to our waiter, Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi is one of their most popular fish dish. We could see why after tasting it. The fish was really soft, and the crunchy outside crust was very flavorful. The slightly sweet guava sauce was perfect with the fish. The two side dishes, roasted vegetable and potatoes, were done very well.

Spicy Coconut Curry Shrimp Noodle Bowl ($10.95)
Rice noodle, vegetables, basil, cilantro in coconut broth

I was going to order Spicy Coconut Curry Shrimp Rice Bowl, but our waiter said he thought the noodle bowl is better. My friends loved the noodle bowl. The Thai flavor soup noodle tasted really authentic. Lots of shrimp and vegetables. The coconut curry broth was addicting.

What a great dinner! We had so much fun chatting and catching up. The food and beer were perfect (with ocean view window seat). We didn't want to leave!

So happy to see my old friends. Geddy and Juey promised to take me to their favorite spicy hot pot restaurant when I visit Taiwan next time. Can't wait for that! ♥
