Battambang is a Cambodian seafood restaurant.  I've been there twice and really enjoyed the food.  I don't really know much about Cambodian food.  I thought it tasted kind of like Vietnamese Chinese food.

One of my favorite dish from the restaurant was the Beef Lok Lak.  The marinated steak cube was super tender.  It was served with fresh onion slices and tomato with a side salad.

On Sunday, coworker Vee brought Beef Lok Lak from Battambang.  When he showed me the food, it looked and smelt so good.  I jokingly said "why don't you just give it to me".  Well, later he started feeling sick and had to go http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com early.  So my wish was granted.  I took over his dinner for $8.00 (because he drank the free pork rib soup already).

The food was already cold when I ate it.  But the beef was still really good.  The brown sauce turned a little gooey.  But I like dipping my beef in the sour lemon/vinegar sauce.  The beef also came with fried rice and salad.  This was actually cheaper than ordering the beef alone.  I guess you get more beef if you order it without the rice.

Eating this dish made me want to go back to Battambang again.  I think I like Cambodian food.

  1. Just to let you know, they are actually Vietnamese restaurant that is similar to Newport Tan Cang Seafood. Based on what I understood, the owners are Cambodians and have menu in Cambodian text.

Of course I am going to hear it from Cantonese folks who will tell me that Vietnamese food at Newport and Battambang are partly Chinese influenced (which is true).

BTW, did you know that your Battambang review was the reason I started reading your reviews? LOL

What a coincidence you posted up this place today!

That's what I thought. The food was similar to Newport's.
So what is the real Cambodian food like?

  2. I really couldn't tell you about the difference. I thought Battambang was Cambodian cuisine until several friends and a blogger told me it was not. The Cambodian community is mostly in Long Beach and there are several Cambodian places down there.

I might check one of them out soon.

I'm gonna do some research about Cambodian food, too.
    Hope to try soon!
