Yakiniku at Home

Dr. P. had some work to do on Saturday. We decided to have dinner at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com to save time/money. Went to Nijiya and saw their beef for yakiniku/sukiyaki was on sale. One $3.50 box was plenty for two of us. Also got a cabbage for $1.20. And some Japanese BBQ sauce for $3.99/bottle.

Yakiniku & Cabbage by you.
Yakiniku & Cabbage

Dinner was put together rather quickly.  Marinated the beef in some Japanese BBq sauce for 10 minutes.  Sautee.  While meat's cooking, chop the cabbage and some garlic.  When meat is done, sautee the garlic and cabbage in the leftover meat sauce.  Season with salt and pepper.

I really like this cut of meat.  Had just enough fattiness.  The BBQ sauce was a bit salty.  Maybe I added too much, or maybe I marinated for too long?  But it tasted great with rice.  Cabbage was yummy, too.  For some reason, BBQ beef and cabbage just go so well together.

So the cost of this meal was:  meat ($3.50), 1/2 cabbage ($0.60), a bit of BBQ sauce ($0.10?), leftover garlic ($0.10?) and leftover rice from lunch ($0.50?).  Add everything ($4.80) and divide by 2 = $2.40 per serving!

Yes, we can save so much money by cooking at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com!

  1. Hi Eileen. We've been following your blog recently and love the way you write. We're a new online food review site and we've started by focusing on Los Angeles. We've hosted a number of blogger dinners in the past months. Past dinners included a confit of suckling pig dinner at Ford's Filling Station; a Bordeaux and sushi pairing at Shibucho; and sushi at Jinpachi, one of the best in LA. Our next event is a Shanghai-nese food and Spanish wine pairing in Monterey Park. We're featuring a pork pump pairing with Spain's most famous wine, Unico Vega Sicilia and would love to have you. Please email me if you are interested. Regardless, your work is great!

    Thanks,

Too bad I'm in Los Angeles. If I'm in AZ, you won't be dining alone anymore!
I'd go knock on your door everyday at dinner time! haha.... ^^
