On Halloween night, I didn't go trick or treating.  Instead I went to a wedding with Dr. P.  It was Dr. P's friends Fernando and Monica's wedding.  They picked Halloween to get married because the date had some special meaning to the bride.  We didn't attend the actual wedding at the church because Dr. P had work and I had school.  But we went to Almansor Court in Alhambra for the banquet at night time.

Before the actual banquet started, they had a mariachi band performing. Those guys were really talented. The upbeat music definately made people get into a festival mood.

Apple Martini ($12.00)

We went to the bar to get a drink.  An apple martini was $12, and it wasn't good at all.  It just tasted like artificial apple flavor with very little alcohol.  Beer was expensive, too.  $6 a bottle.  I guess alcohol is always expensive at those banquet halls.

Chicken Skewer

There was a small appetizer buffet with chicken skewer, fruit and crackers.  The chicken skewer was alright.  The chicken was a bit tough, but I like the sweet mango sauce.

Bride and groom entering the banquet!  Monica looked so beautiful!!

Salad

The banquet was a classic 3 course dinner: salad, main entree and wedding cake.  The salad was fresh.  They offered Ranch and Italian dressing on the table.

Steak

The main entree was steak, a big piece of juicy steak.  I really liked it.  The mushroom and onion sauce was delicious.  Mashed potato was good, too.  But they sprinkled some purple salt (?) on the rim of the plate.  I think it was supposed to make the dish look prettier, but it actually made the dish looked... messy.  Oh well, at least the steak was good.

Too bad the cake didn't taste as good as it looked.  The texture of the cake wasn't that delicate.  And the cream and strawberry jam was a bit overly sweet.  I didn't finish my cake.  Maybe I'm just so used to the Asian style cake?

After dinner, it was dancing time! It was a brand new experience dancing to Mexican techno/rave music. There was this little boy who danced non-stop all night long. So cute!

It was a really fun wedding. Congratulation to Monica and Fernando!

  2. I think a Chinese banquet still gives more bang for the bucks. I bet this place charges at least $50 per head for room and food.....
