I visited Santa Ana Zoo once before for a field trip from school. It's a small zoo, but I love it because they have so many monkeys in this zoo! The weather was so nice last Saturday. Perfect day to go to the zoo! Ticket is $8 per person. If visiting on weekday after $2, then it's $4 a person.
It's Dr. P's first time visiting Santa Ana Zoo. He got a cut on his foot from surfing so he rolled up one side of his pants because he didn't want it to rub against the wound. He walked around like a dork all day like this. haha....
Monkey #1.
(Fat) Monkey #2.
Piggy was sleeping in the shade on his bed. From interacting with pigs from school, I really think they are a lot like dogs. They are very smart, they love their bellies to be rubbed, and they wiggle their tails when they are happy.
Harry Potter owl!
Very handsome turkey. Seriously, every time I see farm animals, I feel guilty about eating them.
The chicken here are so fat. They are just chilling in the sun.
I asked Dr. P to take a picture with the Jeep. As I held up my camera, this man started moving toward the Jeep. I counted one... he moved a little closer. I counted two... he moved a little closer and even faster. When I counted three... he was right behind Dr. P in the picture. I couldn't help laughing. I think he really wanted to be in the picture.
There were some monkeys sleeping on the tree. I remember the zoo keeper told us last time when I visited that they used to have a lot of monkeys in this exhibit. But one monkey figured out how to jump on trees then the rocks then to get out of the exhibit. He then taught everyone how to do it. Then one night they all got out to play. So they had to move the monkeys somewhere else.
Also something I learned from the zookeeper from previous visit. She told us that llama has really bad eye sight. They recognize each other and people by scent. One day the zookeeper forgot to bring her sunscreen so she borrowed it from another zookeeper. When she went to feed the llama, they came up to smell her and didn't recognize her new scent so they thought she was a stranger. They all spitted at her that day. haha....
This 27 year old monkey has alopecia, a.k.a. hair loss. haha.... I think his eye sight might not be too good, either. There was a pile of poo poo on the ground. The monkey creeped up to it (we think he might thought it was a small insect or something), then jumped on it and attacked with his hands. Then he looked his hands with a confused look on his face, smelt his hands, and licked it! Yewwww..... it was really yucky, but really funny at the same time.
There are a lot of primates in this zoo. I was too busy looking at them and just didn't take pictures. If you or your kids like monkeys, definitely come to visit this zoo!
Then we went to the Amazon bird area. It was nice and cool inside the bird exhibit. So we sat down in the shade to relax for a bit.
This pretty red bird was standing on one leg, just resting.
The turtles are all sun bathing. So cute!
Dr. P is very professional at posing like Asian tourist now after a few years of training from me. ^^
We asked someone to take a picture of us sitting on this big turtle. But he... cut the turtle's head off.
Before leaving, we hit the gift shop. Hey look at this new fashion, snake scarf! haha....
What a fun day at the zoo! :-)
