[South El Monte] [Vietnamese] Pho Minh

Pho Minh

Dr. P came to my side of town on Saturday after surfing down in OC. We are trying to save money and wanted something cheap and filling.  A good bowl of pho is always satisfying.  So I took him to Pho Minh to try the no MSG pho.

Pho Dac Biet @ Pho Minh by you.
特別牛肉粉 Pho Dac Biet ($5.55)
Special combo w/ rare slices of steak, well done brisket, flank, tendon & tripe

Dr. P got the Pho Dac Biet with beef, brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe.  The soup was so rich and had a creamy color.  Dr. P took a few bite and said, "I think this is the best pho I've ever had!"  He said he used to like Pho 79's a lot.  But now Pho Minh is his new favorite.

Basil, Bean Sprout, Jalapeno & Lime @ Pho Minh by you.
Basil, Bean Sprout, Jalapeno, Lime

There are basil, bean sprout, jalapeno, and lime to customize the flavor of your pho.  We usually add everything.

Bun Bo Hue @ Pho Minh by you.
順化牛展檬 Bun Bo Hue ($4.99)
Special Hue Style Spicy Beef Noodle Soup

I wanted to try something different and ordered the spicy Bun Bo Hue.  Dad had it before and liked it.  Mom didn't.  I wanted to try for myself.  The rice noodle was the thick found kind.  There were beef, pork blood, fish balls, and pork hock in the noodle soup.  The soup was pretty spicy.  At first, I thought the pho was better.  The flavor of Bun Bo Hue was so different from the pho that I think I just needed a little time to get used to it.  After a while, I start liking it, more and more.  The spicy soup was kinda addicting.

$15 for dinner, including tips.  Nice!  We were full and satisfied.

  2. You can try another one too. On corner of Valley and Ivar Ave, at Universal Bank Plaza. It's big and filled with meat. I can't even finish.

I've been there before. I like the pho, but not the Vermicelli.

  5. I don't like Pho Pasteur. It's always too crowded, and their pho is just so-so to me.

My choice for pho is Saigon Flavor, at Del Mar and Valley (close to Hawaii supermarket).

Saigon Flavor? I've never been there.
I'll put it on my to-try list. Thanks for the info.

  6. pho so 1 is a really popular one which is why it's a chain. it's literally everywhere; i think it's pretty mediocre (and i'm vietnamese, so i've eaten a ton of pho). if you are ever in the area though, there's a pho place in westminster (little saigon) next to a banh mi che cali that is THE best. and you can get some baguettes and whatever after you eat for later or the next day. omg, i love the smell of the butter and baked good at banh mi che cali the best smell

Thank you so much for the info.
If I ever go down to Westminster, I'll definitely pay the pho restaurant a visit.

  7. oh, and the pho gets a creamy color bc of the slices of steak. they put it into the soup raw, and the hot broth cooks it since the meat is so thin.

So the creamy color is from the beef slices?
I thought it was the bone cooking in broth for a long long time.

  8. Hey Eileen,

Since you are in that street, get Dr. P and yourself to try out Pho Filet. It's right around the corner from this place. I have heard it's very good and it's one of the place to try out I have yet to do.

So is this place for me! I got to go try Pho Minh and Pho Filet.

Pho Filet? What a funny name! I'll try the place soon.
