Mom's Bento is the Best

I have two more days left at work! Then no more bento.... Oh well, let's see what I ate last week.

I love my mom's fried vermicelli.  It tasted every "Taiwanese"!  Just love the shitake mushroom in the vercimilli.  And of course, garlic chili sauce form Wonton Forest.  Mom also sauteed some cucumber with leftover roasted duck meat.  Delicious!

Lots of braised food in this bento.  Mom made braised pork and tofu.  The meat was braised for hours.  Super tender.  And the best part... the fatty skin!  Dad made braised intestines.  Intestine is my favorite food in the whole wide world!  He also sauteed some pickled veggies, which went really well with the intestine.  Gotta have some green veggies with every bento of course.

More intestine and pickled veggies.  Green veggies in the bento, too.  I bought a big ham from Fresh & Easy the other day.  Guess how much?  It was $6!  $6 for a big ham!!  Can you believe that?  Mom cut off pieces of ham and sauteed with lotus root.  It was really good!  Also mom used the bone from the ham and made some delicious soup (with napa cabbage, daikon, onion, and glass noodle).

I love my mom's food!

  2. I went to Fontana again this weekend to get some of that mexican style of beef offal. They are really good and your mom and dad can really cook good chinese style ones. They should take orders like that mexican family is doing, I'll be your first customer in line :)-

  4. I'm not into intestines although I ate them relatively frequently in Tokyo (they are SUPER popular in Tokyo).

I loved the snack food in Taiwan. I would just go to convenience stores, by lots of snacks, and happily eat it in my hotel room (that sounds terrible but it was delicious!). My boyfriend still talks about the mochi-type snacks that I brought http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com for him.

Intestines is popular in Japan? I had no idea!
So you've been to Taiwan, too? Don't you just love the 7-Eleven in Taiwan?
They carry all kinds of snack. When I was living in Taiwan, I think I visited 7-Eleven daily for snacks haha.
