Steamed Fish
I watched dad prepared the sauce. He used:
- Oyster sauce
- Soy sauce
- Mirin
- Sesame oil
- Garlic Powder
- Water
I don't know the exact amount since he made it by tasting it.
So here was how I made the fish:
- Steamed the fish for about 15 minutes. I didn't add anything. But if you like, I supposed you can add some salt and pepper?
- While the fish is cooking, start chopping and slicing. Lots of green onion, lots of cilantro, and some hot chili pepper if you want to add some heat. Remember, A LOT OF green onion and cilantro. Those were delicious with sauce. Trust me!
- When the fish is almost done, heat up the sauce in the small sauce pan. Once the sauce starts boiling, turn off the heat.
- The cooked fish will release some "juice" when it's done. Add the fish "juice" to the sauce.
- Place the fish on a deep dish or plate. Put LOTS OF sliced green onion and chopped cilantro (and chili pepper if you like) on top of fish. Pour hot sauce over it.
- Get a big bowl of rice, and enjoy!

Wow! You're so lucky! You have a dad who catches a fish, and then makes it for you to enjoy!!! I bet it was good...steam fish is one of my favorite chinese dishes...mmm...with some white rice...mmm...
ReplyDeleteI never knew steaming fish is that simple.
Definitely lucky to have fresh fish from dad and for free, too! :-)
Steamed fresh whole fish is so good! Usually I get them at the fish tank at 99 Ranch to steam at home. Lucky you! BTW, when steaming it, don't add black pepper, but salt, rice wine, and placing ginger and the white part of green onion under the fish would make it tastes really good.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jess~~~~
I'm going to try that next time!
I make steam fish many many time. Learn it from my mom. What I do usually is after I clean the fish, I chop some ginger and garlic and put on top of the fish. You can also add chinese dry mushroom on top of the fish if you want to (make sure you soke the mushroom in the water to make the mushroom soft). For the source I just use soy source, sesame oil, chinese wine, and sugar. Mix all the source together and pour on top of the fish. Steam about 10 minutes or less (depand the size of the fish). Usually i can tell by looking at the fish eye ball (when the eye ball turning white and poop out)
ReplyDeleteSo you steam the fish with the sauce?
My dad's method was steam the fish by itself, heat up the sauce, then pour the sauce over the fish.
I'm going to try your way next time to see how it'll turn out.
Thanks for sharing your recipe, Winnie! :-)
