Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels

There was a food truck parked outside of Blackmarket Bakery on that Saturday when I was there. Blackmarket Bakery was really busy. So was this Piaggio Gourmet on Wheels food truck. Actually most people get food from both the bakery and the food truck.
Even though we just ate at Break of Dawn, I felt like I wanna get something because the food smelt and looked so good. I couldn't help but starring at the yummy food people were eating.
Piaggio is a gourmet Argentine taco truck. Everything looked so good on the menu. I was having a hard time deciding what to get. A guy who appeared to be the owner asked me if it was my first time there. Then he talked to the people inside the truck in a foreign language that I don't understand (Argentine?), and they gave him two little containers of sample for me to try! How nice was that?! He let me try their skirt steak and pulled pork, telling me both are their signature meat. Pulled pork was flavorful and very good. And the steak, oh my that steak, it was melt in your mouth kinda good. I knew exactly what I want to get after trying the free samples.
Pulled Pork Taco / Skirt Steak Taco ($2.00/each)
I brought two skirt steak tacos and one pulled pork taco http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com. One steak taco for me, and the rest for Dr. P. I kept on telling Dr. P how good the skirt steak was while taking the food out of the bag. He kept on saying how full he was from Break of Dawn, how he was about to pop, how he couldn't eat anymore. I insisted he tried one bite at least. He took one bite and said, "wow this IS really really good." Then he finished both steak and pulled pork tacos. He kept on saying that this is his favorite food truck comparing to Kogi and Barcelona OnTheGo.
Chimichurri Fries ($2.00)
Also got an order of Chimichurri Fries. It was $3, but if you order it with other food, then it's only $2. The fries was good on its own, but even better with the chimichurri sauce. From Wikipedia: Chimichurri is made from finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, vegetable oil or olive oil, white or red vinegar, and red pepper flakes. We had leftover rotisserie chicken in the fridge. The next day I sauteed some shredded rotisserie chicken, leftover fries, and the chimichurri sauce. It was soooo good that way.
This taco truck was a great find. Seems like I've been having really good luck running into good taco trucks lately. :-) We'll hunt them down next time when we're really hungry to try more of their yummy food.

Chimichurri fries....that sounds awesome...ever since I had authentic Argentinean chimichurri I have been craving something to put it on....fries sounds delicious...!!
ReplyDeleteChimichurri sauce is awesome!
It's my first time having it. I'm going to try to make it at http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com from now on.
I can't say no to a food truck. What would you sell if you opened 1?
ReplyDeleteI would sell Taiwanese street food.
Popcorn chicken, BBQ Taiwanese sausage, BBQ corn, stinky tofu,
oyster pancake, Taiwanese meat ball, boba milk tea, grass jelly drink, lemon jelly drink... etc.
Now I really really wish I have a food truck!
What would you sell?
I think you'll be really good at it!!! I'll buy from your truck. How much are those trucks anyway?
ReplyDeleteI'd sell depending on where my (imaginary) truck is parked. In downtown DC, i.e. Lawyer and Politician town, where people have the money but not the time, I'd sell http://www.eileenlikestoeat.commade soups, amazing salads, and French bread. Low cal and no MSG--so people still have enough room in their stomach to go for the power dinners, and they won't feel sleepy after lunch. It's important to them to remain totally alert to back stab their opponents for the rest of the day.
In regular office workers town where there are lots of guys, I'd sell Haikenese Chicken over rice!
Obviously I've thought a lot, way too much, about this topic.
Are food trucks popular in DC?
We have gourmet food trucks everywhere in LA and OC now!
I really wish there will be a Taiwanese food truck.
I would totally buy from your food truck too!
Yes, I can tell you've been thinking about it a lot. haha....
Maybe you can really do one?!
An old used truck is about $30,000. A newer used one is about $100,000.
I wouldn't buy a new one so didn't look up the prices.
Hey $30,000 for your own business. Not bad, yeah?
(Hmmmm... now that got me started thinking....)
If there are no Taiwanese food trucks yours will be the only game in town. Um. What will you call your truck?
ReplyDeleteTwinkle and Teddy Superfly?
Strawberry Special?
Whatever. Just don't call it QQ...the perennial favorite name of all things R.O.C.
I'm calling mine Rock Star.
I'm going to call my truck Strawberry Kitty. haha....
If I can be the first Taiwanese food truck in LA/OC, that would be awesome!
