[Irvine] [Fusion] Kogi Korean BBQ-To-Go

Kogi Korean BBQ-To-Go
http://www.kogibbq.com

Kogi Korean BBQ truck came to Irvine last week on both Tuesday and Thursday.  We had plan to go on Thursday because I had class till late on Tuesday, and Kogi truck were only going to be in Irvine till 9pm.  I came http://www.eileenlikestoeat.com around 8:30pm, and we decided to just go for it.  We were so glad we went on Tuesday instead of Thursday.

We made it there around 8:45pm, and there was nobody in line.  What?  No one in line for Kogi?  There were a few groups of people eating in the parking lot.  We overheard this guy saying that the line was really long earlier.  I also heard from friends that they had to wait in line for about 1.5 hours earlier.

After ordering, we waited for about 7 or 8 minutes for our order.  Some people had to wait for 30+ minutes when they were really busy.

Kogi Kimchi Quesadilla ($5.00)

We had Kogi Kimchi Quesadilla at Alibi Room before and like it a lot.  The first piece of the kimchi quesadilla I had was really good.  But the more I ate, the saltier it got.  I couldn't even finish the second piece.  Hmmmm....  Did they make the sauce heavier than before?

Korean Short Rib Taco ($2.00) / Spicy Pork Taco ($2.00)

We got two Korean Short Rib Taco and two Spicy Pork Taco at $2 each.  The kalbi taco was again, too salty.  The meat tasted sort of like carne asada.  It was a little hard, a little burnt, and tasted salty and sweet.  It didn't taste as good as the one we had at Alibi Room.  Spicy Pork taco was better than the kalbi taco.  The pork was soft and tender, and the sweet spicy sauce was tasty.

Korean Short Rib Burrito ($5.00)

We also got a Korean Short Rib Burrito to share.  It was a big and fat burrito.

Inside the burrito, there were the same salty and sweet kalbi, lettuce, and soft mushy rice.  The burrito was actually quite tasty, although we still didn't like the kalbi as much as before.  We both thought the burrito tasted better than the taco, and it was a better value item because it really filled us up.

So on that night, we thought Kogi at Alibi Room tasted better than the actual Kogi truck.  But we wanted to go again on Thursday to try more items from the truck.  We went to the truck around 8:50pm again thinking there would be no line.  Wrong!  There were probably about 60 or 70 people waiting around the truck still.  We even saw two big tour buses in the parking lot.  It was crazy madness, so we just left.  Some friends went on that night and waited in line for 2 hours!  Kogi is good, but still not worth waiting in line for that long in my opinion.  So next time they come to Irvine, we'll try our luck again!
